Marilyn Manson dropped by record label

Futurenoir's picture

According to 6music, Marilyn Manson has been dropped by record label Interscope after his last album only sold 100,000 copies.

Seems like, in the words of Spinal Tap manager Ian, his appeal is becoming more selective.

Into

what? A well full of molten effluvia? One can dream I suppose...

Poor old Brian...

he tried, bless him.

Brian ?!!

Ha Ha! Brian Manson would have actually been a FAR more sinister moniker. Deeply unsettling.

His real name...

is Brian Warner!

I see the need

for name change !

Poor bugger

I hope he takes it as impetus to sort himself out a bit, as by all accounts he's been a bit of a mess lately. As anyone who saw his turn in Bowling For Columbine knows, he's generally been a clever, articulate man with his head screwed on, and I've always liked his ability to fill kids' heads with seditious thoughts... shame his songs are rubbish, mind.

It depends entirely

upon how you define 'clever'. The man is a vacuous pillock and deeply unpleasant. If you mean 'clever' in regard to his fortune making ability to peddle tenth rate hogwash anarchic faux 'satanic' shite to to adolescents, under the pathetic attempt to use the curse of 'post modern irony' that lets every talentless but successful Gobshite off the hook, then you're absolutely spot on.

And in return

I would say: define 'unpleasant'. Does he stab kittens, or do you just mean you don't like what he says.

I lived in a shared house for some time with a young metaller, an extremely intelligent and creative lad who had endured terrible bullying but found community and self-worth in the goth/metal scene: a classic story, in other words. And the rhetoric of Mazza Manson meant SO much to him and his friends - it was genuinely empowering. These are nice kids, and they find something very real and very powerful in Manson and similar, so who are we to argue with them?

And have you seen Bowling For Columbine? 'Vacuous' is not the word that springs to mind.

Indeed.

He came over very well in the movie.Perhaps he stabbed Robert's kitten though.

The Beautiful People

Still a great song.

I've met him once. Nice enough guy. Very into his music. Was banging on about Depeche Mode and Numan.

Unfortunately...

..this will mean he has more time for his other hobby - painting. Google if you dare.

Only 100,000?

Pah!
I pressed 100 of my last CD and I've still got a boxful in the garage. He doesn't know the meaning of failure! Lightweight!

a third rate Alice Cooper

Manson's music never really backed up this image he cultivated as the ultra-depraved, neo-Satanic Pied Piper of disaffected American youth. He was only following in the footsteps of Alice and Ozzy although they did it with humour, better musicians and vocal talent. I've seen him live twice at festivals, firstly when he turned in a reasonably entertaining show, and the second time when he was bloated, half pissed and about as satanic as Rowan Williams

all that said, he used to be married to Dita von Teese so lets face it, he might be an idiot at times but he's no fool.

I'll be along shortly!

Now, we all read the chuck berry goings on with my good self. Don't eat your dinner when I write about mssr warner. He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty, difficult (sorry just wants what's in the contract), gross, grosser than gross and clearly bored, boy.

Up to my neck in 80's shockers WASP right now but deal with the matter in hand shortly.

He's definitely been going off the boil for some time

but Antichrist Superstar is still a terrific album. Pity the last one was a pile of cack.

And it doesn't really help when you're on a festival stage

Giving the appearance that you don't wanted to be there! His slot at Download was a disaster, doing new stuff but not really selling it; taking time between songs changing coats and having make up applied too!

Ah well, soon he will start doing the nostalgia tours and playing the old hits.

And the "old hits" is what was missing ...

... the only time I saw him live. Far too much of the crap new material - Eat Me Drink me was completely uninteresting and unexciting, but enough people must have bought it before finding that out.

Once bitten etc, so they didn't bother with the last one - High End of Low - I bought it (perversely), and the one track which stands out (We're From America) would have sounded very average on most of his previous albums.
