Marathon Man

Iainso's picture

Just watched this classic again. Perfect Sunday Evening viewing. Can anyone see this scene and not wince?

Ouch.

By hideous coincidence

My crown's just fallen out. The armies of pain are gathering in the valley below, and already a scout has come galloping over the hill rattling a sabre. Monday = emergency appointment with the same dentist who inexpertly wedged the bloody thing in last week. Gah.

Yes but...

... is it safe?

I've heard there's

a practice down on the south coast similar to this.

I have an appointment..

..in Belfast on Tuesday. Thankfully my dentist bears no resemblance to Sir Larry.

I feel an extraction coming on....

I watched this when it was on the other week...

...and was surprised by how the dentist scene was much shorter than I remembered: if the film was (re)made nowadays, it would doubtless be a lot longer and gorier.

PS: The scene at the end - the bloke who runs for his life before the shooting starts sure takes his time alerting the police, doesn't he?

My enjoyment

of this movie has been spoiled to a certain degree by reading William Goldman's 'Adventures in the Screen Trade' many years ago. In it, he details some of Dustin Hoffman's antics, and how much physical anguish he caused Laurence Olivier with his method acting techniques.

And then...

...they changed it to 'Snickers Man.'
