Mahavishnu Orchestra Christmas song released!
Posted by Colin H on 16 December 2011 - 5:25pm.
...er, no, sorry - as you were... it was all a dream...
(shuffles off to darkened room for bit of a lie-down, with visions of Noddy Holder hollering 'It's Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssttmaaaaaaassssssssssssssss!' over a deafening yet deleriously brilliant racket made by a spiritual looking man with a double-necked guitar)

You Snow You Snow?
Maybe not.
Oven-roasted...
...Birds of Fire. With visions of the chestnuts beyond...
Was it
Twelve Days Of Christmas? I heard their version was literally 288 hours long.
*adopts prog botherer face*
Not prog bothering at all NorthernBoyo...
...I laughed out loud! Nice one! :-D
I am a pretend northerner
I'm really a Hampshire boy who is sadly besotted with a football team.
*illusions shattered*
...first FakeGeordie, now you...?!? Is there no integrity on this blog? And why is everyone pretending to be Northern anyway?!? Isn't it meant to be grim oop north...?
Hate to disappoint
But while I am from Cheshire, I am not a cat. Sorry.
It's certainly not at all grim round this bit of the North. In fact today it's lovely and thick with snow - more than my trips through Rochdale and Todmorden could muster earlier.
Didn't they do some carols on the album,
"Between Nativity and Epiphany" ?
If it were true
it would undoubtedly be a song for life not just for Christmas (or would at least seem that long!) :)
You could be right, Daddio...
..."Fusion The Red-Nosed Reindeer" may segue, around April or thereabouts, into the "Sapphire Easter Bunny Of Pure Love".
When Billy Cobham's drum solo would finish, though, well... who knows, who knows?
Surely it would be
a ten minute sleigh bell solo it being festive and all that!? With ice skating Santa's
Well, let's try it out, Dadmeister...
...simultaneously press play on these two items and let's see if it works!
First, get the MO clip to the 3:25 mark, then start both. I have a hunch that seasonal fusionistic bliss will result... and if it doesn't, stick around anyway for the terrific Ralphe Armstrong bass solo!
Ah, okay, so it DIDN'T quite work...
...unless it was a JAZZ sleigh-bell counterpoint, of course.
One can just imagine McLaughlin stopping the rehearsal and glaring around the room:
"Right, WHICH one of you guys was playing IN FOUR-FOUR?!?'
It may not have worked but it made Mrs C and me chuckle
I feel I have been educated tonight as I have never actually heard the MO play before now. Maybe it's the season of goodwill etc affecting me but they weren't as "challenging" as I feared. Seasons greetings Mr H and may your bass solo's never end.
Splendid!
...though I DID cheat a bit, bowing to the light-entertainment focus of the season by choosing a glimpse of the MARK 2 MO (1974-76) - altogether much funkier and more approachable to the casual ear, I think!
Sincerest pleasantries of the season to yourself and MamaClarkio-ho-ho...
You're telling me

Look what J Mc got for Christmas
Godin guitar, nice pedals....plenty of opportunity for outraged comments about virtuosi, chin stroking, you can't dance to it, etc.
Great stuff, Twang...
...the beardy geek certainly pinned down the gear, but alas the JM accent remains in an unknown geography all its own!
There was certainly a Spinal Tap-ish moment about halfway through when JM eulogises about the wireless mic sound his guitar gets 'and then there's this great switch to get a cable sound - a cable sound! - for all those people out there who like a cable sound. Though I can't tell the difference...'
