Mad Men 3

Prestonia's picture

Seasons 1 & 2 passed me by alas, and its unlikely I'll be able to find the quality box set time to catch up. Is it worth plunging into season 3 tonight?

No.

Wait. Do it in order. You wouldn't pick up a novel and start reading in the middle, would you? Same with this.

agreed....

Too much history with loads of the characters. Most are keeping secrets from each other and much of the drama depends on you knowing this. I envy you though - you're in for a wonderful experience. It is brilliantly acted, the women look amazing and as for the first time you see Joan.....

I'm sold...

Ok, will do..

..I started The Sopranos in the middle and went back to the first two seasons with no ill effects - wouldn't have worked so well with The Wire though. Thanks for the advice..

Series 1 & 2...

...on Amazon for £17.98 right now. Just crunched through both series in preparation for series 3 (somehow missed out first time round) and loved it. Series 3 more of an event even than the Apple tablet, IMHO...Of course, if you have the right technology you could lay down series 3 in readiness.

Get in there

you won't regret it.
"You wouldn't pick up a novel and start reading in the middle, would you?"
You would if that novel was À La Recherche du Temps Perdu.

Looks good too!

How good was last night's offering? Campbell's sniveling. And I actually shouted out loud when Sal got spotted from the fire escape. All that and an air hostess in suspenders. All bases covered! Brilliant stuff.

PS. These are the first eps I've watched on my new-ish 32" flat-screen TV, and the colours were gorgeous. The blue of the doors against the brown of the walls was enough for me.

I even love the...

...opening titles!

Quality television.

And what *was* that "Maypole-dancing trance", that Don was in last night, about?

Deep

I thought was a wee reverie for Peggy's Pepsi/Patio commercial...

I'm a confirmed MM devotee

so I eagerly watched the double bill introducing season 3. It didn't disappoint, of course, with the slight caveat that I thought - as so often in US dramas - the British characters were hopeless stereotypes.
