Booked!!
I'm on my own today and seriously considering spending the afternoon jumping up and down like an excited child.
Hell's bells.
Starting at £75? No wonder I don't go to many gigs. Seventy-five fucking quid? £95 if you want a better view?
Christ. I mean, obviously, if people will pay that, then good luck to them, but wow. Seems like a huge amount of money for a night out, does that.
There were some £50 ones too (+ booking fee...)
Arena prices are a bit crazy in general. I think Coldplay were charging £60-£65 for their lowest priced seats and, whilst big, they're not McCartney.
Yeah, I'm not singling out Sir Grecian Mc2000 by any means.
It's all ridiculous. I earn a reasonable living, and like I say, I'm glad I'm not a big gig-goer. It's got so expensive - there's no way I could afford it.
Still, I'm sure you'll have a great time!
I go to a few gigs now and then
and can get on the average 4.5 gigs for the price of one Macca. Not bad.
Saw him in Hyde Park last year and he was great. Feel no need to see what will be basically the same show again inside.
This week - Heaven 17 for a tenner. Oh yes.
£75
is steep, I'd probably go that high for someone good that I hadn't seen before. I wouldn't pay it for an Arena gig.
IIRC £65 has been my top ticket so far. Four times - Dylan, Dylan, CSN, and CSN. They scraped in just under £75 even with fees. And even I knew I was being a bit dumb.
For my least favourite Beatle ? Nah !
For less money
I saw him supported by CSN, Crowded House and Elvis Costello just two years ago at Hard Rock Calling.
£100. Sheesh.
£100!!!!
"Every get the feeling, you've been cheated."
? I missed it out last time.
?
It wasn't the ..
.. £95 quid a ticket that shocked me - it was the £7.60 booking fee per ticket that made me shake my head. Plus delivery of course.
Thats someone taking the piss and then redelivering it down your trouser leg.
Rather than doing
Liverpool & Manchester on successive nights, couldnt he have binned one of those and played say Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh instead to at least spread himself round the country a bit?
Unfortunately
The reason for this is probably the same as the last time he toured and didn't play these venues. The arenas are simply too small to accommodate his stage set up. Bear in mind this is a scaled down version of something designed to play massive outdoor concerts and is really quite spectacular.
I'd love to see him up here too as I can't afford the attendant travel/accommodation costs for these shows. To be honest if I was going I'd do what I did for Springsteen shows and go to Paris and have a mini break instead. Much more fun and just about the same price for me as going to London.
What's his stage show?
What is his stage show then? Surely there can't be all that much more to it than a few blokes playing guitars?
Here's one of the quiet ones
seated at the piano
It can of course be scaled down dramatically to this
Yeah bin Liverpool Macca
that'd go down well
Bin "one of those"
so he could drop Manchester, as opposed to playing 2 shows within 30 odd miles of each other in the middle of winter when its tough to travel and doing nothing to cover the north east, Scotland...
Well, it all adds up you know
Heather's divorce settlement, new pony for Beatrice, Nancy wants to do up the downstairs loo and Grecian 2000/hairplugs don't come cheap...
Paul McCartney FRONT ROW PACKAGE includes:
Front row ticket
Special crowd-free entrance
Invitation to soundcheck
Pre-show hospitality reception
Tour merchandise item
Collectible laminate
Onsite event management staff
PRICE from £725 per person including VAT
Hopefully
if the tour sells out it'll put a smile on his face.
Bloody women
"Heather divorce"
"Beatrice pony"
"Nancy doing up the loo"
"paying for the honeymoon"
Too right, if it wasn't for bloody women, he'd be charging a tenner with no booking fee, wouldn't he?
Never seen that before..
.. Invitation to soundcheck.
Not sure whether its now standard for these sort of "premium packages" - but I genuinely see the pull of that for a hardcore fan. Obviously not worth £725 quid though - much more fun trying to sneek in the venue & / or bribe the security...
..... In fact for £725 it would be worth getting a job with the security firm & working that night - you'd see the concert & the sound check. If you were unlucky & were posted to door duty - then just wander off - ditch the bright yellow bib & bag in an empty seat at the front
Get the dvd, 12 quid on day
Get the dvd, 12 quid on day of release, 5 quid 6 months later.
£100.. I'd pay it
I'd pay it.. He ain't gonna be around for ever..and it don't look like anyones gonna take his (or any other rock/pop legends for that matter) place. Saw him once, well worth it. Get in while you can I say.. theres plenty of others I wish I hadn't missed out on over the years.
That is
very true. If Macca is your man, then it's probably worth it. He's unlikely to ever get cheaper.
Thats why I'm peeved
He is the guv'nor, just to see him live once would be enough, but it is just completely out of my reach at the moment. Gah.
Spoke to a journo mate in Abu Dhabi who's just scored a phoner with him, so my frustration is now compounded with sick, green envy ;)
I paid it
£102 inc booking fee per ticket for Manchester. Macca is on my 'list' - people I have to see in concert before it's too late. Others on my list- I saw Jean-Michel Jarre the other year, CSN the year before last and I hope that Kraftwerk will resurrect themselves at some point so I can see them. The only other one on my list is Pink Floyd, but that's so unlikely I make do with the Australian Pink Floyd, who, by all accounts, are as near as dammit.
Australian pink floyd
Australian Pink Floyd, who, by all accounts, are as near as dammit.
Seen them a couple of times, just about note perfect, strongly reccomended.
And certainly better than the Gilmour Floyd
tours with a dozen musicians on stage.
Last time
I had two £125 tickets that I immediately regretted spending all that money on. It was meant to be an Xmas gift for my brother who then couldn't make it. I toyed with asking a mate but in the end sold them for face value.
I didn't regret it at all. (well, I had a twinge when I heard there was a full pipe band on for Mull Of Kintyre).
An awful lot of money to spend to inconvenience yourself going all the way over to the 02 on a school night.
Cripes
I'd pay £100 to avoid MOK.
£50
As mentioned above, some of the seats are £50. Obviously it's still a hell of a lot for "bad seats", but last time I saw him (M.E.N. Arena, April 2003) it was also £50 for the seats at the back, so at least in 8 years he hasn't increased that price. You get a lot of music too, he does 2-3 hours normally, and I had a great time then.
It's a bit of a one-off for me, I want to see him again while I can as it's that long (8 years!) since he's actually played Manchester. There's a very small number of people I'd pay this type of price for, the only other one in recent years was Neil Young and that was like getting two-gigs-in-one (he did an hour solo acoustic set then a 90 minute electric band set).
I like Paul......
.....but, yikes.
As the London date is on a Monday maybe some of the massive could double-up and go and see Arsenal for £100 the previous Saturday!!
Rip-off Britain?
Never.
Is it really
that much for a soccer game ?
And that's a weekly expense for a fan.
I saw him standing there!
Seen him twice and both times were good. Certainly wouldn't pay £75+ to see him again though.
Do you think he'll do 'We Can Work It Out?' if so I hope he doesn't muck up the intro yet again!!!!
Well, McCartney is playing the Globe here in Stockholm
Tickets are priced from SEK 1495 (£141) - yikes! - for front row seats to SEK 395 (£37) for seats tucked up in the roof somewhere.
I must admit I'm tempted by seats at round SEK 695 (£66). I've never seen McCartney before, and well ... you never know. He may never play the Swedish capital again.
And I must admit my enthusiasm went up a notch after I'd checked out this setlist from a gig in Chicago earlier this year:
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/paul-mccartney/2011/wrigley-field-chicago-...
Crikey!
Let Me Roll it! I've Just Seen a Face! I Will! Blackbird! Mrs Vandebilt! Eleanor Rigby! Golden Slumbers!
Oh yes.
His summer shows
Friends of mine saw him in Chicago this past summer and they're STILL talking about it, which is annoying as I couldn't swing it. He and his band seem to have hit some kind of groove. The reviews were pretty over the top favorable but the funniest one was from a critic in the Village Voice who wrote, "The fucker can belt," as if that was a surprise.
Get yer money out !
He's a Beatle for chrissakes !
One day there might only be Ringo left..
*A* Beatle.
My favourite Beatle, in fact. But the thing about them Beatles is they were more than the sum of their parts. I'd pay £100 to see them. But he'd have to be better than he possibly could be for a ton of cold hard cash. For me, it's not remotely worth it, but I realise there are lots more die-hard fans than me. Hope everyone has a great time.
Ooh That Stirred Up The Pot
I posted this in the first place as I got an alert that tickets were on sale and hopefully it would help somebody get a good seat. Looks like kidpresentable did so the job's a good 'un.
I went to the same Manchester gig 8 years ago and had a seat about 40 rows from the stage and to the side. It was a great concert and I had a priceless moment when he played All My Loving and I was overcome by this emotional wave that a Beatle was on stage playing this music I have loved since I was a small child. I no longer remember the cost of the ticket but I will never forget that moment. The band were terrific and the show was designed for much bigger venues so I'm pretty sure even those at the back enjoyed it. Perhaps we forget how fortunate we are that even our largest venues are small in comparison to the rest of the world and get regular visits. Fancy being one of 350,000 at the Kiev concert anyone?
Price wise I paid more for Led Zeppelin at the O2,Neil Young and Tom Waits both at the Edinburgh Playhouse but I chose not pay 90+ to see McCartney at Hampden last year as it's a horrid venue and the other day decided 50 quid was way too much to see Joe Bonamassa. In the end it's the shows I remember not the credit card bills
Hey!
Is that you at 1:16?
Not me
But yes the eyes were definitely moist
At the end of the day
Too right Ralph..money can't buy a moment like that.. well it can obviously, thankfully.
If not Macca who else would ya pay a wunner to see.. ?
He's gotta be up there with the best of them..
Saw him twice in the seventies
Once at the Hammersmith Odeon (as was) and once at Ally Pally. Both superb shows. Can't remember how much it was but it can't have been much more than the price of an LP.
Saw him at Hyde Park last year and he and his band were tremendous. My 15 year old son loved it too. Only dampers of the day were England losing to Germany in the football and that somebody had plugged in Stephen Stills's guitar for the CSN set.
I can't really justify spending that much to see him again so soon though. But if you haven't seen him, go if you get the chance. As someone said, it's the same price as watching Arsenal and I can guarantee it will be more fun.
Definitely Hoping To Go...
... to his Liverpool show, and take my parents (it's my mother's birthday in Dec, so it'll be a birthday / Christmas present). We had tickets for the Anfield gig to mark the 2008 Capital of Culture - £75 a pop - and then they mistakenly went and booked themselves a holiday where they were due to return the day after the gig. Fortunately, I got to go with a friend, and it was without doubt the best concert I've ever been to. So whilst the idea of paying £50+ for a ticket rankles a bit, I think it's got to be done. I can't think of anyone else I'd pay that kind of money to see, though.
It's the thumbnail manicure
that pushes the costs up
He's advertising
up the top of the blog.
Maybe he's the next podcast guest.
It's all coming together.
I noticed that too
The link I posted was live to the public on the 10th but let's not upset the Amex people when their ad is no doubt helping keep our blog afloat
Christ on a bike
That's expensive. And seven quid booking fee?!! I can't stretch to that. Last week I bought tickets for Magazine in Bath. Twenty two quid each plus one pound booking fee. No delivery charge as the tickets are emailed to you. Now that's the way to do it.
