Bad Vibes
Just started to read his book, very good it is too.
A really great book...
I was in and out of (always unsuccessful) bands in the late 80s and early 90s & felt his pain!
Just wish
that he was as good as he thinks he is. His music is mediocre at best.
No it isn't.
Yes it is.
No it isn't.
Yes it is...
nah
mediocre at worst.
Thanks for the link Adman - will listen later. Just ordered the new album - thanks to Amazon letting me know it was out - have the Wordsters reviewed it yet?
Think there is a review in
the forthcoming issue.
cheers
Coincidentally, today I received Truth and Lies in Murder Park a book about Mr Luke Haines by Tim Mitchell. Do you (or any other Wordsters) know it?
Don't know that one.
Had a quick look on Amazon. Looks interesting.
The album (21st Century Man) is really, really great
If you're a floating voter start with the first song, Suburban Mourning. I've got it on repeat - splendid glockenspeil work, old school Haines darkness mixed with a new strain of warmth. Suits the old git very well.
Weirdly it's getting mixed reviews (The Sunday Times absolutely crapped on it) despite being a much better overall listen than his last one - which got four star "Aaah, he's a national treasure" write ups all round. Not sure what's changed in the music critic zeitgeist. What's the Word review like?
He was on fine form
and good foolin at teh Luminaire t'other nite
My advice
Read the book. Steer clear of the music.
Horses for courses...
All the Auteurs albums are worth a listen. Black Box Recorder too. And the Baader Meinhof record is a little masterpiece.
Agreed
The YouTube clip above isn't the old git at his finest (much as I love the song in its recorded form). Try this - no visuals, a huge rip off of The Osmonds by Denim, and at least one verse and a coda too long - but I've still listened to little else for the last couple of weeks (incidentally, great album review by Jude in the last issue):
