Lost Bowie

djr71's picture

I contend that the first tin machine album is in fact a work of genius. "Under the God" and "tin machine" are both brilliant. The suits on the cover are equal to the music inside and the beard Bowie is spouting works for him?

No

But Lodger I would put forward for the same accolade: Boys Keep Swinging and DJ are great Bowie pop singles, some solid album tracks and one under-rated classic (Repetition) that was covered I think by the Au Pairs.

This site's

becoming a Tin Machine love in. I seem to remember previous similar posts saying how great they were.

I don't agree. I don't think he's done anything decent since Scary Monsters.

I *loved* the Tin Machine cover of Go Now

although The Dame didn't sing on it.

That one

And for the record, Tin Machine I and II both contain great songs - the aforementioned Under The God and Tin Machine, also Amazing, Crack City, Prisoner Of Love, I Can't Read, Baby Universal, You Belong In Rock'n'Roll, Goodbye Mr Ed and a cracking cover of Roxy's If There Is Something. Not a bad haul at all.

Heathen

Heathen's a very good album. I'd certainly class it as more than "decent".

Never really listened to Tin Machine. Off to do so now.

I loved "Tin Machine" when it came out

I have just had another listen on Spotify and haven't changed my mind.

Not "quintessential" or "seminal" as rock hacks would describe it but a good album.

Their "sophomore effort" was pants though!

Tin Machine's first album...

... contains four of Bowie's career-best songs: Under The God; Bus Stop; Amazing; Prisoner Of Love.

Tin Machine 2 contains one, too: Baby Universal.

Not here I'm afraid.

Bought first TM album, couldn't stand it. Eventually it went to the 2nd hand records shop where it met a lot of it's siblings.

Heathen

.. has been praised many times before on this site, but I really do think it is stunning hence why I'm saying it again. Had he released it following Scary Monsters I'm sure it would be held in much higher regard.
