LOST?
Posted by Martin Simmonds on 22 March 2010 - 11:47am.
Over the last six years, having donated chunks of my life to the TV series "lost", I felt duty bound to keep up with events in the final series. (Currently showing on Sky)
God, it's hard going! Talk about dragging it out. It better have a bloody good ending.
Anyone else feeling duty bound to stay with it until the bitter end? Most people I talk to abandoned ship after series three.

I'm hanging on in there
Keeping my expectations low.
I'm clinging on
by my fingernails. To be fair, I think S6 has had a couple of good episodes, especially that one about Ben. They get it right when they stop worrying about answering questions or throwing mysteries at us, and concentrate on producing self-contained hour-long chunks of drama.
After all, if you're just hanging on for the sake of having your curiosity sated about what the numbers mean or who that man was stood next to Cindy in season 3, then you're in for a disappointment; after six years, nothing's going to be worth the wait.
I gave up after one or two episodes
As soon as I heard that they were planning on 7 or 8 series, I got the hell out of there. Life's too short.
Really?
ABC is making so much of this being the last series/questions answered /resolution - surely the executives would not be cynical enough to drag it out longer - surely not.
all these boxsets etc
have brought out the obsessive in everyone. Would it be the end of world to miss the odd episode of a show every now again. Stop now and walk a way you'll surprised how good it feels.
Final series...
I think this IS the last one. In fact I'm only watching it BECAUSE it's the last one. I didn't actually watch any of the first 5 series so I watched the catch up stuff and I'm sticking with this primarily to see if I'm right and that when it comes to the crunch there will NOT be any real explanation as to what the f**k has been going on for 6 series.
If ever the plot of a TV series seems as if it's been made up as they went along, this is it.
The writers
have said that the arc of the story and conclusion was worked out right at the start.
Am quite enjoying it
Haven't watched much of the 5 preceding series (particularly early on) but have watched odds and ends with the missus, and have decided to watch the whole of the final series, because it's intriguing where it might end up.
Anyone been watching Heroes btw? That has gone slightly bonkers.
This is the 6th and final
This is the 6th and final series. Certain aspects are a bit bonkers but it's really inventive storytelling and has just about been worth sticking with. It seemed to lose a lot of people in the second series which is a shame as the last few have been stronger. I would say though I'm ready to put it all to bed and am glad it's the final series.
As far as I'm aware, the writers always knew how it was going to finish but the network pushed for it to be stretched out as much as possible.
Meantime, 24 is cracking along at a fair old pace.
I can't help feeling that...
.. the conclusion is going to be a huge disappointment. But then I guess it's virtually impossible for it to live up to expectations.
This final season has been infuriating
For example, one of the central plot threads of the earlier seasons now appears to have been completely abandoned in favour of a thread that's only really been developed over the last eight or so episodes. I've abandoned all hope of there being anything like a satisfactory conclusion, and my heart sinks at the thought of all the hours I've spent (wasted?) watching it. Now I know how all those people who waited so patiently for The Phantom Menace must have felt.
I've spent the last six years on this
...and I'm not about to give up now
Lust For Lost
Hear hear, I think LOST is great, you have to stick with it and despite the odd few turgid episodes it's great. Seasons 3,4 and were ace. I thought season two was the worst, really slow. If you go back and watch season one again, bits start to fall into place, I think it's a magical and wonderful show!
They're cruising for a bruising
Last season was really good, I thought. This one is back to its turgid worst - so far. I gave up for a season after 3, fed up with how much they dragged everything out - just reminded me of the awful US tv of the 70s, compared to the speed and sass of its modern counterparts. Would have given up by now if it wasn't the last series - it feels like visiting a boring relative watching it each week.
Yep, hanging in there
I've previously posted about my utter bewilderment at the first two episodes of the current series. What keeps me watching is
1) The wonderful characters
2) As Pax Romana said, there's still some quality TV coming out of it
3) Although I don't expect it to make sense, nor that they'll tie all of the loose ends up, I'm still fascinated to see whether they'll manage to tie any of them up. For example, what if anything will we find out about the way the "survivors" - except they aren't survivors as there was no plane crash - in the parallel strand keep meeting up with each other in LA. And if we are to believe that the nuke at the end of series 5 reversed the crash, how far further back than the crash did it "erase"?
My head hurts.
We are discussing it...
...makes it more interesting than most television series.
I watched the last 5 series on DVD over the last 12 months - its been a great ride. From the "surviving" first series - to completely bonkers thought provoking parallel path time travelling - great stuff. I dont think they wasted a minute - works in the TV medium - a story that changes and builds letting the characters develop - to death and back in some cases! John Locke - oh you mean "smokey" - sure - why not
Anyone care to play guess the ending?
Will the Island be revealed to be like a black hole in space?
Will Ben come good in the end?
Will Jack and Kate be an item?
Will the irish character out of Lord of the Rings be brought back for a significant appearance?
Will there be a spin off series?
The dog that didn't bark
Desmond.
That's all I'm saying.
Next week is Richard Alpert's
backstory
Nuff said.
This season has been uneven but by god, I'm gonna weep when it goes. What else is left? Flashforward?...pppptttthhhpppp!
Kate n Sawyer are gonna end up together in both on and off island reality. I mean Jack v Sawyer, even as a hetero man its a no brainer.
I think Lost will have a satisfying conclusion for thsoe who don't want every single thing answered and expect the tie in book 'What We Didn't Have Time To Explain' out in time for Xmas
Part of me is hoping that Patrick MacGoohan guest wrote the last episode before he went and it is one big 'sort the bones out of that shit' hoo hah like the end of 'The Prisoner'
Whatever the ending i'm sure I will be watching it with my mate who has been with me from the beginning with a nice meal and celebratory beverage
Backstory?
You mean he's not Herb Alpert's son, lead singer with the Ram Dass Jam Band, and author of their one big hit 'Black Smoke Betty'?
A show unfairly
strung out by ABC who demanded more seasons than originally planned. The show haemorrhaged viewers in the baffling third seasons, which featured futile detours and unnecessary backstory (Jack's tattoo *wince*).
That said I'm an enormous fan and Fridays can't come round soon enough. No, not everything will be answered. But the important stuff will be, like why are they there, and why them. If you re-watch early seasons as I am, you can see that there were clues laid down building to the very conclusion we're aiming towards.
Alpert's story will be unbelievable I'm sure.
It just never fails to baffle me
I've never really wavered in my enjoyment of Lost, but find myself increasingly bewildered, despite the fact we're getting closer to the end.
I can't say I won't be glad it's over as I feel it's definitely run its course, though.
I want to know if we'll ever see Walt again :o)
Walt would be
6 ft 5 now with a voice like Paul Robeson
'where's Vincent' is a more vital question
LOST THEORIES - SPOILERS!
This is something I found on YouTube, and is one guy's theories about season 6. It's all based on footage from all the previous series, but yet brings out theories that change your entire perception of the show.
Spoiler alert!
So, yes, apologies for the capitals. I know people don't like to shout round here, but if you want to have a better understanding at the genius of the show, then I recommend watching these.
"Massive story arc" does about cover it for the show, and some of the theories link back in with the first scene of the first show. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
I have watched every episode twice, and it makes a lot more sense to me than people I know who dip in and out. This isn't Eastenders. It takes a lot more than a single episode to have a storyline. Which I can see why it would annoy casual viewers (which is what most people are at the end of the day), rather than the obsessive nutters like myself. :)
This also points out some minute detail that even I missed on two viewings. Crazy stuff!
Another viewer writes
I hope it ends well but I'm predicting a degree of ambiguity in the finale. That seems to be the way to keep people talking. Regardless of how it finishes, I've enjoyed it right through and I'm gutted that there will be no more.
