Long Blog Entries - does anyone like them?
Posted by Mr Fade on 12 January 2009 - 10:31pm.
Twice today I've seen huge, long blogs for new topics that I just can't be bothered to read. Is it just me? It's not that I've got a short attention span - I read proper books and that, honest guv - it just seems so ridiculously out of place here that I think the person who wrote it can't have anything interesting to say. Aw shucks, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade or make enemies - maybe I'm just getting old?

Keep It Short
I know what you mean, unless the first sentence grabs my attention, I tend to skip really long blogs. I like books as well, I find it hard "reading" off a computer screen for long periods of time.
Generally not... but it depends who is writing them...
anything by Archie or Backwards is definitely worth reading, long or short.
Long blogs
Like I say in the FAQ, brevity is preferred. Long blocks of online text are off-putting and tiring to read, and with most people reading online at 30-50% of the speed at which they read print, keeping things succinct is the more sensible approach.
Great!
Great!
Not that bloody...
succinct!
Super!
Super!
For god's sake man
DON'T LOOK UP AT THE POST ABOVE YOURS
I don't mind them
but if I'm not hooked by the first few lines I don't bother.
On livejournal...
...there is a cut-off tag that allows you to conceal part of your post behind a link. As a result, visitors to my blog who find themselves unconcerned by what a total skank Skyler has become ever since she was named Head Cheerleader, are spared from having to scroll down through my tedious mishmash of prose, l33tspeak and random shout-outs to my honeys.
I noticed something similar on the 'Liverpool Dance Scene Disaster'. The first paragraphs is on the blog. If you want to read the rest of it you simply click on the link.
Can someone explain to me how you do this?
That was me
I did it manually - originally the post was several miles long, so I separated the bulk of the text from the introduction.
Sometimes
I
can be
arsed and
sometimes
I can't.
Less is more
These long blog postings are dragging the site down. Egotistical ramblings of people who probably haven’t had a decent conversation with a fellow human being for some weeks.
