London Massive Mingle, September 16th... change of venue!
Posted by Hannah on 8 August 2011 - 9:37pm.
Hello chaps!
If you like real ale, cake, talking about music, and you happen to live within shouting distance of That London then please join us for the next London Mingle.
We've been looking for a new home for a while... and now we have one. Well, we had a new home but now we have a new new home. Oh, I'm confusing myself. Anyway. More details in the comments. Hope you can join us.
Mine's usually a sparkling water. I might let you buy me a cranberry juice and vodka this time though, turns out I'm not allergic to all alcohol any more, hurray...

New venue is King and Queen, 1 Foley Street, W1W 6DL.
Nice pub, less than a mile from Euston Station (the very nearest tubes - 3 minutes walk away - are Goodge Street on the Northern, Warren Street on the Northern and Victoria. Oxford Circus and Great Portland Street tubes are less than 10 minutes walk)
We have the upstairs room to ourselves, it's a nice space. There's real ale in the bar downstairs, staff seem nice and friendly, and they have a CD in the room with an ipod connection, so we can have a jolly big bun fight (erm, I mean we can take it in turns nicely) over who gets to DJ the room.
There's no room hire charge or minimum spend; all they ask is that we do a whip-round in support of Macmillan cancer support.
Cakes, pork pies, badges, CD giveaways, book swaps all happening as usual.
Here's my list of people that I believe are coming... hopefully you'll join us too.

Well done Hannah
sounds like a great new venue. Got some books and DVD box sets (yes really) to give away already.
See everyone there and as always, don't be nervous about coming along for first time, deep breath and walk through the door, you won't regret it.
Yes, at last, I will be coming.
I will be coming down from South Norfolk to Liverpool Street and from there will follow the bonfires to my destination.
Yes!
Hoping to be there, absolutely!
Can you wear a name badge?
...I'd be furious if I couldn't work out who you were.
The third person to arrive
is automatically assumed to be Bargepole, fine poster of this parish.
Quick round-up of more attendees:
Itfc1959 (first mingle! brill! look forward to meeting you)

and... I think... last but certainly not least... Grant and the lovely Mrs Grant from Oop North.
Perfect Massive venue because...
Bob Dylan played his first ever London gig there, and it's about 100 yards from my office. They do a nice pint of Adnams too.
Oooh Adnams!
I like Adnams. Looking forward to it.
I shall bring some goodies too.
See you there
Could do with a London group hug this morning.
Sorry can't make it this time
as I'm going to be on holiday. Have fun though.
Grant is coming?
Yay!
Yet another Northern interloper
Taking his very life into his hands, intrepid Northern scally Paul Waring will also be risking nose bleeds and slippage on the golden streets of That London on the 16th.
You have been warned.
Hannah - what's the CD theme?
Grant - how are you getting down and where are you staying - or will you be muttering into a can of Special Brew on the Euston concourse all night? I'll most likely be driving down, then sloping off to Southampton on the Saturday morning to stay with Mrs W.
Splitters!
Just jealous really. Bring us back a stick o' rock.
I am nothing if not 'generous' with my affections...
I'll be seeing you the week before so don't be getting all possessive on me.
If I wasn't going on to Southampton the next day, I'd have given you both a lift. In fact, if you can make your own way back, I'm happy to play chauffeur for the outbound leg.
But you have to listen to MY music in the car...
xxx
You're a gent Paul.
Unfortunately even with your kindness taken into account we simply cannot afford the cost of accommodation in that London or indeed the train fare home. We really are as poor as church mice you know. I'm afraid we will be unable to attend the next N.W. Massive mingle in Manchester as well, transport being the issue with that one. If we caught the last train available back to darkest Wales (11:15) the journey would take a staggering six hours!! Lord only knows why.
However none of this is of any interest to anyone so I'll simply say that Donna and I hope you all have a fabulous evening.
Theme...
I don't think we've been organised enough to pick a theme. As our honoured visitor, would you care to pick the theme?
The Pressure!
Oh my Hannah, such responsibility, on such flimsy shoulders...
Actually, I know.
In the light of recent horrible events in London and elsewhere, how about a bunch of CDs full of songs that celebrate peace, love and understanding?
As a wiser man than me once said, what's so funny about that?
I'm not aware of that song
When I was in Vancouver I sadly went round on a moped visiting the locations in the promo. Think Alexei Sayle in "Stuff"
Great idea -PEACE LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING it is
Splendid!
Nay, nay and thrice nay
I've already prepared my CD contents ready to burn a few copies, should I be jet-lag free enough to attend.
I'll be there
Looking forward to it as always.
I have no excuse -
my gym membership ends the day before and I will be counting down exactly one week until my New York excursion, so I will need to get some new reading and new tunes for the flight.
er...
... maybe I could make it a second...? I confess I had an attack of paranoid, nobody-likes-me neurosis about the last one. I'm like that rather too often, sorry - there's rather too much feckin' emotional baggage floating round my neurotic psyche at the best of times.
But I did enjoy my last one in January. And I'm very clean. Can I join in again?
*nervously awaits response*
We'd love to see you!
Really enjoyed talking to you when I met you. Hope to sere you there. And please bring Super Jules. Xxx
Weren't you the lucky recipient of one of my
classic compilations? Was that what put you off attending the last few meetings?
Definitely not!
It was fantastic, still got it and enjjoying it. Not sure I can reciprocate though, given my circ's, but I could always buy you a beer or something? Or loot a laptop from Currys...
Beer will do nicely
thank you!
I really, really
HAVE to turn up now...
I'll be there
All other things being equal.
I should be able to make it
Hurrah!
Not hijacking the thread (well am a bit)
but Thames Valley Minglers - VOTE!

Sorry
I said I'd be there, but that week is the only one in September when we can schedule a week away. I'll be in Venice with the love of my life, but I'll be thinking of you all.
Going
to Venice alone - shame! :-)
In the words of Liza Minelli
Maybe this time.
Still in the diary...
...but we're out the night before. The Chubby Checker Code expressly forbids consecutive evenings of excess at these levels. Sod that, I'm in!
I'm on it
Like a car bonnet. Looking forward to it already
I've just realised
I had a beer and a bag of peanuts in this boozer a couple of months ago. It was certainly popular at lunchtime, the staff were friendly and the ale well kept.
For anyone erring on whether to attend or not, I'd just like to add that even as someone without an encyclopaedic music knowledge, who is not particularly gregarious and dare I say it, a bit dull, I've always found these gatherings of the Massive hugely enjoyable. So come along.
That said, I'm not officially on the list for this one but may be able make it along for an early evening couple of hours.
I always say
I will come and have it my diary so do hope to make it, though am not able to burn cds these days, but have books which I'm more than happy to give away and share.
In the parlance of an inarticulate footballer
I'm gutted. Absolutely gutted.
I can't make this one after all. A good friend of mine has rearranged her hen night for the same date.
Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger. Unless I can persuade my mate to change the venue and have the hen night at the mingle. I wonder, how would an influx of middle-aged, squiffy women go down?* (*This is not the first line to a dirty joke. Although it could be.)
This will be the first London mingle I've missed for a while and I'm really disappointed.
Bring the hens to the mingle
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd find that extremely entertaining...
I make all the effort to brave That London
And you're not going to be there to look after me?
Gutted doesn't *begin* to describe it.
Can you not at least send Mr Drakeygirl along in your stead?
I'm a poor substitute for Drakeygirl
but I promise to look after you and feed you cake. Xx
No you are NOT
Drakeygirl is lovely and will be sorely missed.
But, my sweet, you are not a poor substitute for anyone or anything.
I do worry about 'Cake' though. I remember Phil Collins telling me it was a bad, bad thing many, many years ago.
Just say no, kids.
I am SO SO EXCITED about coming down to THAT LONDON and seeing all my VIRTUAL FRIENDS!
(NB. I am 52 years old.)
It's Ages Since I been to that there Londinium.
Any fashion tips? I got some nice flares I could iron.
Anyone got any requests for anything they may want, books or records-wise? I'll see what I've got in my tin.
And while we're at it. Webpage for bargain train fares?
Just remember, Paul...
Down here, it's "Hattie Jacques Pretentious Cheese Wog". Calling it "cake" will just get you laughed at or shot, possibly both, possibly simultaneously.
Well, it's good...
...to see you back here. See you on the 16th?
Catch me staying away!
:-)
Excellent...
...I owe you a pint, I believe. See you there!
Duly noted sir
And good to have you back where you belong.
Now go and start a fight somewhere.
*sits back in anticipation*
No Drakeygirl?
*dies inside*
It'll be tough
but we must soldier on*.
*Party like it's 1999.
Yep...
...should be there, as hopefully will Son of Allan too.
Houston, I have a problem
One of my work colleagues is having her leaving do that night. As there's only 12 of us my absence would be spotted. I had a pink pass and everything......hopefully still valid for the next mingle.
*pouts*
awww, completely understood, but I'll miss you. see you at the next one x
OK...
I'm in! My best chance to meet you fine folks in reality, before the new term really kicks in with a vengeance...
Anyone recommend a good (not too scabby, not too wallet-crippling) hotel near the venue?
HOORAY!
That's splendid news xx
Cheers Hannah...
Looking forward to meeting you all & sampling cake... Will you be bringing the uke?
Yes!
The uke will be present. Which reminds me, I should get practising.
It'll be so lovely to meet you!
think I can make this one
so i'll probably be leaning against the bar with my comrade in arms baskerville old face.
...Having one of our "Yes or AC/DC" conversations...
...Which of these two bands has sold most albums in their career?
AC\DC
by a country mile I would wager.Having the 2nd biggest selling album of all time helps
we cleared that one up years ago
Yes only beat AC/DC in one category. The number of line-ups in forty odd years which must run into scores.
As you say, to be continued leaning against the bar. Can we not do Yes v Rush? Rush must have outsold them by now too.
Bum
I'm back at work that week in that there London, except for that day, when I shall be somewhere else instead. I must make it along to one of these one day.
Bother!
Something's come up I can't really re-arrange.
Was quite looking forward to it as well. Ah well, roll on the next one...
I've Bought My Train Ticket!
Hurrah! That means I'm coming to Londinium!
Ticket from Diss, incl. one of those Underground Passes, off some cheap ticket website, saving me over £100! Hurrah!
*thinks*
It's a bit big, that Londinium, isn't it?
Blimey.
Splendid news!
See you then! x
the Hendersons will dance and sing
And Vorgongod will do his thing
Don't be late!
Ms Hannah G assures the public
Her confection will be second to none
Is everyone still doing 'Peace Love & Understanding' CDs?
Just I will knock mine up (missis) this weekend but will think about it while I work this week.
Also if anyone wants any particular boots then lmk. Vorgongod I have some Costello goodies reserved for you.
Oh and lots of books n assorted rubbish for the 'bring n buy giveaway' table
Mine is sequenced
Just needs covers and burnings and I'll be right.
Dfb
I salivate..... Will bring a trinket or two from my trove for you too...
