Logitech Squeezebox help?
Posted by UtrechtSimon on 27 December 2009 - 10:38am.
I bought a Logitech Squeezebox internet radio as a Christmas present for the FPO. The radio stuff works perfectly but it won't pick up my music libraries. I've got the Squeezebox server running on my PC so that seems fine but if I click on My Music on the Squeezebox, it just gives me an explanation of what it is with no way of connecting to my library.
Can anyone in this parish help please?
Thanks.

Is it your firewall?
I'm not a Squeezebox owner but these things often need you to slightly modify your firewall settings to allow a client to access the server. The Internet radio bit doesn't just goes straight through the router so isn't affected.
I'm just using the standard Windows Firewall...
...and the Squeezebox server is ticked in the exceptions.
Is there some other setting I need to change?
Have you scanned??
It shouldn't be a firewall issue.
The first thing to do is set up your music and playlist folders in the server settings and then hit the scan button (use teh 'clear library and rescan everything' option). Depending how many files you've got this can take a while (I've got 35k files it takes 45mins).
If you use Mcafee as a virus scan you will have problems with artwork but that's another story...
I don't have so much
but after a while it gives me the message "Music Scan terminated unexpectedly (merge various artists)"
The information section of the server says that there are x thousand tracks etc
I think you'll
have a look at the scanner log file (under server status). That will tell you why or whan it stopped...I used to get message that when I was running Mcafee and had fire wall issues, but it could be a bad file somewhere.
For the FPO???
yeah right!
She loves it..
..we live in Holland, she loves Radio 4 and this is more convenient than dragging computers around the house.
Still can't get it to see my music libraries though ;-(

Squeezebox Network
My Guess is that you havn't connected to the Squeeze Center - which is your PC running squeezebox service.
Squeezebox network is different and is hosted on the web - have noyt used this.
Good luck.
Squeezebox is a great system.
+1 for above poster...
Seems most likely to me.
I run two - the SB3 in a second system (with a Naim Nait mk2 amp and AVI Neutron IV speakers - very cute) and in the main system I have a modified SB3 which is called a Squeezebox+, resplendent with 70s-ish wooden sides, yum!
Great devices, but a whole world of pain if you want to run them on a QNap NAS, as I've been trying to recently....
I run on a QNAP
(409 Pro) - what problems are you having? The QNAP forum is pretty helpful, though you may need to register to get to this page

Problems with QNap?
Mine's a 119Pro, but the problems I'm having are largely behind me (fingers crossed). Outstanding ones are:
* can't play APE files (have to convert them to another format)
* can't seem to play 48KHz MP3 files (again, have to convert them)
Along the way I've had hassles with performance (sorted), no sound on AAC files (fixed by way of updated SSOTS release), hanging during library refresh (again, fixed in update) and generally problems with the drive not spinning down when idle (a very common complaint on that forum).
Didn't have any of these problems when I ran it on my Mac, but wanted a more energy efficient unit and an excuse for a NAS drive :)
Cheers,
John
Maybe I'm very dumb...
...I do have this running on my PC (Squeezebox Server) and now the radio says it can't find my library despite knowing its name. I'm getting there slowly but it still doesn't work.
Firewall it will be.
Have a look at the Logitech site. You have to configure the firewall settings (at least you do with my Sonos) and it depends on what firewall you're using - the site should tell you everything. You just click a few boxes here and there. And then it all works.
If you go to
http://[yourserver]:9000
what do you see? Can you see any tracks, and is your player showing up in the dropdown list of players?
It just sits there....
...saying it's loading. The diagnostics on the squeezebox server on my PC also say that the total players recognised is 0.
Thanks for all the help everyone by the way.
OK, I've added the ports...
and now I can see the music. The dropdown list has mysqueezebox.com and Squeezebox Radio. I'm going to test the radio later (after work).
Thanks everyone.
