Live Eastenders Tonight

David Wright's picture

I haven't watched Eastenders for years;like many other soaps I gave up on it and now have much more free time on an evening.
I will try and watch it tonight, just on the off chance that one of the actors may fluff their lines or there may be a hilarious technical fault or another cringe worthy cock up.
This of course won't happen, it will be perfectly executed and gripping for half an hour won't it?

If you told me that the entire cast...

were to be annihilated by a vast gas explosion in Albert Square, I might tune in.

UFO lands in Albert Square Tonight

Or the ghost of Frank Butcher appears in Ian's greasy spoon, although I doubt Ian even runs the cafe these days. It went downhill after Arthur left.Bring back Albion Market and Triangle.

A UFO landed in Albert Square

a long time ago and the aliens are still there in droves...

I'm sure it will be fine

Most of the actors are accomplished enough, though many of them won't have done anything live, like theatre, so of course we'll all be tuning in to see if there are any disasters.

I'm looking forward to it.

"...won't have done anything live..."

Just apropos of nothing, why wouldn't "many of them" have done any theatre work? They can't *all* have just leapt fully formed from Central Casting.

It's not like the old days when everyone did rep

that doesn't apply anymore. Much of the younger cast will not have trodden the boards outside of drama school even if they'd wanted to.

The reason I ask

is because I know a few young jobbing actors who do tread the boards in rep, all the time hoping desperately for a call from The Bill or Casualty.

Fair enough

that's where the money is after all

excellent live rainy misery!

will there be shouting in in the middle of the street and people looking mournfully though the back of taxi cabs, score! Hasn't Friday night got something a little more life affirming and original to offer us than this miserable risible tosh?

No escaping it

I agree with you, can't believe the non stop hype for tonights show. I was swimming this morning and forced to listen to our crap local commercial radio statio. The presenter must have mentioned tonights live show at least twice every half hour. What a twit.

Viva Uk Tv

Sometimes I think Brits are a bit spoilt when it comes to telly. If Easties is as bad as it gets count yourselves lucky! You should try living "on the continent" - the inane, sexist pap they serve up here is dire beyond belief.

Somebody will surely utter the line…

… “Get out of Walford." It's in every ep, isn't it?

0

I'll give it a miss

If any mishaps do happen it will be on you tube faster than the end drum beats.

Nothing wrong with Eastenders

It's the best two hours' light entertainment a week.

Why does eveyone have to get so serious about it?

I agree with you

I always find those who slag it off haven't actually seen it for a while, possibly years. Or they've caught five minutes of it and have no clue what's going on so it's dismissed as trash.

It's de rigeur to rubbish it for some reason. Oh that's right, it's a soap and can't possibly be taken seriously or seen in the same breath as "normal" TV.

It's a shame because it's done on a shoestring and as you say it's two hours of TV a week. That's like making a feature film. It may not always be brilliant and some storylines and characters are bonkers, but it's a work of fiction, it's entertainment and I think it does a really good job at that.

You don't have to like it, but it is a very easy target around these parts.

I dislike it because..

...it is populated with characters of the kind I would cross the street to avoid in real life. Deeply unpleasant thickos covered in chips, mostly, with nary a trace of sympathy or guile between them. I also have a medical aversion to the phrase 'What's that supposed to mean?' which is uttered several times per episode.

These opinions are based on experience, nothing else. The Archers is the only soap I get in a lather about these days.

Thanks for the heads up, treacle.

Now I know exactly where not to be this evening. Be lucky!
