Listening to......

bungalowjoe's picture

Morning all,

Never really listened much to Nick Lowe but just been informed about one of his new albums, The Old Magic, and just listening to it on Spotify and really enjoying it. Has anyone else discovered this yet?

I so envy...

...your discovery of his back catalogue. Nick Lowe's one of the very few artists to have done (and is doing) his best work during his much later years. His LP 'The Convincer', in particular, is a modern masterpiece.

The Convincer

is probably my favourite Nick Lowe album. particularly love 'Homewrecker' and 'Indian Queens'.

Mine too.

I'm a Mess is probably my favourite tune on there. Or Lately I've Let Things Slide. 'That untouched takeaway I brought home the other day has quite a lot to say...'

Go Back

Have you gone back and listened to his old albums recently? The Cowboy Outfit albums is a fabulous collection of songs, Jesus Of Cool still stands up with his best songwriting too. What seems to have change is the amount of care spent on the performances. Presumably the old recordings sound like they were meant to and I'm glad they do but he didn't get his nickname for nothing!
I think the thing we should be thankful for is the consistency of the quality through the years.

I feel so much sympathy for you

I'm so sorry Nick hasn't been part of your life for the past 30 years.

I'm so envious that you're discovering his incredible back-catalogue, some fantastic songs are just waiting there for you - enjoy.
