Limewire is dead

Mark Godden's picture

A Good Thing, probably. But did it really affect music sales as much as the music industry claims? I suspect the vast majority of the illegal downloads were in addition to normal purchases, not instead of. Any thoughts?

I think it's 'cos i'm in the grey area

where I considered myself an album buyer, rather than a singles buyer, that I'd often fire up limewire for just one track. More recently, I've taken to, at least, trying to pay for music on iTunes. The last one was the Jona Lewie one from the Ikea ad!

I torrent a wee bit, but, as I miht have said here before, it tends to be stuff that isn't commercially available, or (sometimes) just the bonus disc of an album that I already have. I find that if I listen to something illegally downloaded more than three or four times, I tend to get a naggy feeling about it, and I end up shelling out for it.

Funnily enough, that hasn't happened with many bonus discs. Funny that, eh!

Re your other question, I'd consider myself to be a fairly high spender on music.

Never mind torrents

Most of the youngsters I know of rip the audio from YouTube onto MP3 and put that on their phones etc.
