Has there ever been a man who's voice, background and general demeanour suited a song as much as Levon Helm and 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"?

Is currently doing some shows with Donald Fagen in support. Now that's what I call a double bill!
I don't suppose there's a hope of him ever coming over here, unfortunately.
Even if one were to watch that clip of Levon Helm...
with the sound turned off one would know he is a great drummer. It's the way he holds the drumsticks (with finesse, like a jazz player), the way his whole body moves with the rhythm. He is such a wonderful musician, and a singer of greatness.
He's one of those drummers that
just make it look effortless. Steve Gadd is another one.
I feel..
far more able to face the afternoon now. Wonderful stuff. May have to dig out the last waltz tonight.

He's a hero of mine. Not only a demon drummer,an evocative vocalist, but apretty decent thesapian too.My favourite turn-Jack Ridley in "The Right Stuff". "sir,Is That a Man"? "Yeah, you're damn right it is"!,as Chuck Yeager falls to Earth'having pushed an F-104 Starfighter beyond it's limits.
