I actually burst out laughing at the re-enactment of the 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' scene! The world is indeed poorer for him not being in it.
Can people now please stop using Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah to evoke emotion or when someone dies? It's been done by everything from Shrek to The West Wing, and I'm not entirely sure that a song that is largely about the orgasm is that appropriate, just because the title suggests reverence and a degree of religion.
I have quite a bit of respect for David Letterman, and even more so for Paul Newman; but it's the nth example of the wrong song being used once too often.
Once again David, thank you.

Thanks for posting
Letterman gets it spot on and, for once, there's a reason to remember and respect a Hollywood star.
Yes... cheers for the link...
that was a wonderful tribute... heartfelt and funny. Letterman is a class act.
A cold and broken Hallelujah

Poverty of imagination
The same could be said of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. (Although I have heard less of that recently -- maybe it has gone out of fashion.)
