0
Chris G | 28 August 2009 - 10:45am

Lisa o Piu

Is the name of the artist as the top of the thread. I think she is on My Space and the album

When This Was the Future

is on spotify

http://open.spotify.com/album/52LPn9qm4H7SqV7Voe6k4E

One of the best things I've heard this year

Dark and chillsome folk

Sheev | 28 August 2009 - 8:43am

Frida Hyvönen

I rate Frida Hyvönen highly, particularly her latest album "Silence is Wild".
In this YouTube clip she's backstage at a gig in New York, with her chums Marit Bergman and Jennie Abrahamsson. Suddenly, they break into an impromptu acapella version of Frida's song "Birds" while Frida sorts our her hairdo.
Nice harmonies. In fact, very nice all round.

Don't forget Stina...

0
roryks | 28 August 2009 - 9:13am

Those Dancing Days

From a suburb of Stockholm. their album In Our Space Hero Suits is highly recommended in ChaileyJem towers and on Spotify if you want to give it a sample. but here's their 1st single ( i think).

0
ChaileyJem | 28 August 2009 - 12:17pm

If you're really keen

on Swedish indiepop; male and female then the astonishing Swedesplease http://www.swedesplease.net/ is a great place to start. I think its actually compiled by some bloke from Illinois.

0
ChaileyJem | 28 August 2009 - 12:21pm

Lovely thread topic

But hey, let's not forget their meatballs:

0
Ahh_Bisto | 28 August 2009 - 6:35pm

point of order

what sex is the "Chef" and always throught he was swiss!

0
Chris G | 28 August 2009 - 6:47pm
Ahh_Bisto | 28 August 2009 - 7:12pm

still a bloke !

0
Chris G | 28 August 2009 - 7:35pm

His sex

is incidental. I was celebrating Swedish meatballs man! One of the few things you can find on the shelves in IKEA without fail AND fit into the car without fits of apoplectic rage.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 28 August 2009 - 7:39pm
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:41pm

Oh did I mention that the guy playing piano

plays in this great Swedish beat combo...?

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:41pm

I don´t think you did...

And speaking of which, have you heard Hederos & Hellberg?

0
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:45pm

Yep, indeed...

and as we are playing this game have you checked out Hellberg's fantastic new album as White Moose "Out of the Frying Pan Into the Woods? It is brilliant!

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:48pm

No, but I´ve seen them live in a basement.

Really small and really loud and really sweaty.

0
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:50pm

Wow!

I think it's his best album since the Nymphet Noodlers days.

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 7:08pm
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:42pm

Sorry...couldn't resist

but they have worked with the wonderful Nina too:

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:44pm

Here they are joined by my favourite Nicolai Dunger

and he worked with TSOOL on his album This Cloud Is Learning.

0
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:49pm
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:49pm

Mouth organ action

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:53pm

How about this, Mr Retro?

0
Ola Claesson | 28 August 2009 - 6:54pm

My dream line-up!

Nina rocks!

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:57pm

I'd be absolutely

bricking myself playing that song in front of Plant, Page and Jones!

0
Ahh_Bisto | 28 August 2009 - 7:42pm

Highly enjoyable

Although I think a certain Mr Page took some convincing - (possibly by the gentleman on his right)

0
David Rothon | 28 August 2009 - 7:50pm

Top post Ola!

I love a bit of Nina... that song really works when a woman sings it too... takes the objectionable 'cock' out of the 'rock' if you see what I mean. I'm not a Led Zep fan, too much testosterone for me, but man she sings that like she means it. Great!

0
Adman | 29 August 2009 - 2:24pm

I haven´t got anything against Cardigans

but she always sings much more relaxed, sexy and, well, more confident sounding with others (A Camp for example).

0
Ola Claesson | 2 September 2009 - 12:36pm

Lykke Li

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:55pm

I'll see your Lykke Li and raise you Bon Iver

A little surprised at how far down the thread I had to get to find Lykke Li. Maybe the selection criteria weren't entirely musical.

0
sjc1970 | 28 August 2009 - 8:16pm

or maybe people

don't like Lykki Li as much as you do. Always left me cold I'm afraid.

0
Chris G | 28 August 2009 - 9:33pm

Britta Persson

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 6:58pm

Oh Laura

Not keen on these...

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 7:03pm

The Sounds

kids band really but Maja is certainly not shy...

0
Retro Man | 28 August 2009 - 7:05pm

One more than great Nina from Sweden

and with Ane Brun on this rather splendid little piece of lift music:

0
Ahh_Bisto | 28 August 2009 - 7:18pm

Komeda

with Lena Karlsson

Fans might be pleased to see this rare live clip:

0
David Rothon | 28 August 2009 - 7:39pm

Rebecka Tornqvist - If I Loved You

great voice - amazing song

0
Sheev | 28 August 2009 - 8:59pm

Something new

0
Sven Garlic | 29 August 2009 - 10:06am

It probably doesn't need saying

but I'll say it anyway. This thread is a prime example of why this blog is so good when it comes to disovering music. I suspect from comments he's made on other threads that sheev has stumbled across Ms.Piu on Spotify but that's beside the point. His discovery is shared on here with a thread that provides an interesting theme and less than 24 hours later I've got umpteen more acts to go listen to at my leisure. Added to that is the bonus that many if not all of them are pleasing on the eye as well.

That comment does not extent to TSOOL mind.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 29 August 2009 - 10:15am

Ouch!

I had to throw in some beard action to get people's minds back on the music!

0
Retro Man | 29 August 2009 - 12:00pm

Everything I read about Sweden

Paints it as a sort of demi-paradise of good schools, excellent health services, clean streets & polite people. Is the downside scores of beatiful women making lovely music? Ta for the above, all, & especially Sheev for his entry - truly beautiful.

0
Graham Johns | 29 August 2009 - 3:03pm

It's the way

she sings "We're going to play the most wonderful music you've ever heard" that makes me quiver like jelly. How can such an arrogant statement sound like such an inclusive and welcoming proposition? It's as if she's said it as an afterthought. Captivating.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 29 August 2009 - 10:50pm

I have looked at lots of these videos.

I have heard lots of lovely music.

It has been performed by lots of lovely Swedish ladies.

I have thought about this for a bit.

So now I'm off for a quick wank.

Will someone let me know if the FPO's coming back?

0
Lenny Law | 29 August 2009 - 10:56pm

Sometimes, lenny

I just think you are the funniest man on the planet!
(Only sometimes, mind)
:-)

Monica Zetterlund and Bill Evans

The old woman talking is Monica Z 35 years later. She was Bill Evans favourite singer.

0
dantheman | 30 August 2009 - 7:51pm

Super

- not to mention - duper

I only knew a few of these artists previously - so lots to listen to and discover. Many thanks to one and all.

Spending time in the company of Swedish girls as the nights draw in - could be worse ways to spend time I guess

Here's another discovery - Laleh

0
Sheev | 1 September 2009 - 12:35pm

Oh Sheev, what went wrong?

Your taste used to be impeccable.

I´ll give you a band not featuring any girls, but I believe they have something of a cult following in England. I hope it´s true, they deserve it. They are really great live too.

0
Ola Claesson | 2 September 2009 - 12:37pm

Oh Ola - Laleh - a no-no?

think maybe you're right about her -

do quite like the song above - but listened to her a bit more in the office as I was reading some interminable report and thought it would be good background - but found her a bit earnest and irritating - bit like the report really

Sorry - see below

0
Sheev | 2 September 2009 - 7:23pm

Sarah Pergament Nyberg?

Only heard this a couple of times - but I like it

I have no idea what she's singing about - but it sounds good. Neat video too.

0
Sheev | 2 September 2009 - 7:25pm

May i nominate the worst ?

This is so awful you might need to lie down for while.
I lived in Sweden in the mid 80's and i could tell you a few stor........
