Be

My Baby is incredibly popular on this blog, not only on this thread but on numerous others. Methinks someone should set a new thread going focusing on why we love it so.

I nominate Patrick. : -)

Oeufman | 15 January 2008 - 3:57pm

I've already done it, kind of...

well, I started a thread saying I thought it was the best pop song ever recorded...

Anyway, I can't really put into words why I love it so much... it just makes me feel incredibly happy and sad at the same time. No other record simultaneously brings up such conflicting emotions in me to the same extent...

Patrick Crowther | 15 January 2008 - 4:03pm

Must

have missed it, apologies.

You're right of course, it's a classic in every way. The harmonies, the melody, the sentiment; every listen is like the first time. A very rare occurrence.

Somewhat blasphemously (not sure that's a word), I have a rather wonderful cover by, of all people, Travis, where they've slowed the tempo and it becomes this sort of dreamy dancehall acoustic guitar number with layered harmonies and gated drums. It's quite brilliant, and both versions will be making an appearance at the reception if I ever get married. Along with 'There's A Place' by the Fabs.

Oeufman | 15 January 2008 - 4:09pm

you're right, oeufman

the travis version isn't that bad; see can you track down the Lightning Seeds version. it's not very dissimilar, but Ian Broudies 'weedy' voice actually works quite well on it!
