Lennon unknown
I'm looking for help from some of the more literary types here. About 18 years ago (God I'm getting old) I'm pretty sure I read a short story in a published book about Lennon. The idea was what would have happened to him had he not formed the Fabs or maybe that he formed them but left before they made it. Unsurprisingly he ends up a miserable git. Anyway, it was a great tale but I've never been able to track it down and at times wondered if I'd just dreamt the whole thing...
Does it rings any bells for anyone here? Would love to get the book if anyone can help me track it down.

It's not Paperback Writer by Mark Shipper, is it?
Beatles reform, get on a support tour with Fletwood Mac and get blown off stage by a young support band called The Sex Pistols? Write reunion album featuring "Gilligan's Island" and "Yoko's Going Broko"? I've read it, I know it exists. I *think* it's this...

No its
Liverpool Fantasy- by American author Larry Kirwan and it is fab. The concept being they broke up after the argument about whether Please Please Me should be the single. Lennon goes back to the Pool to live a life of booze and fags, Ringo sponges off Maureen's string of hairdressing shops, George ends up being a priest and Macca becomes a famous carberet singer who is massive in the States. Brilliant hilarious book. Loved the Mark Shipper one too
Thank you so much!
That's got to be the one. I'll celebrate with some...ahem...booze and fags before ordering the book tomorrow. The other book sounds worth a read too.
'The Beatles in Tonypandy'
was good, It was in 'Ambit' magazine earlier this year and was illustrated by Peter Blake. It explained what happened when the Fabs got into pigeon fancying in South Wales during the late 60's, Then the Maharishi turns up and they go to the chip shop. Weird. But funny.
Try and get your hands on this...
The American magazine National Lampoon published a Beatles issue in October 1977.

I haven't read it in decades but I remember the "Beat the Meatles" very fondly. It's an "interview" with the whole band.
Question - "What what you do if it started raining breasts?"
Paul - "Become very frightened."
John - "I'd go and get a bushel."
I think it might be a story
I think it might be a story called Snodgrass by Ian R MacLeod, which was published in Kim Newman and Paul McAuley's 1992 anthology of rock-inspired fantasy 'In Dreams' (there are copies for sale on Amazon Marketplace).
It also appears to be disseminated for free on the net. Have a look here and see if it's the yarn you remember:
