Late Night Relaxers
Posted by David Wright on 30 November 2011 - 8:50pm.
I'm currently in the process of putting a few compilations together for a few friends over Christmas. One of these is "Late Night Relaxers". Any others suggestions with a night time theme or title would be welcome, but as long as the tracks are calming and relaxing, that would be great. Any genre welcome. I'm going to include this for starters, it may seem a bit odd, but it helps me drift off to sleep.
Trains run in the family, my Grandfather used to be a station master and I've always found the noise of trains most comforting.

Nightmares on Wax
Les Nuits
DJ Shadow
Midnight In A Perfect World
John Martyn
Small Hours.
Love this video too.
Blue Nile
Downtown Lights
In fact the whole of Hats is a "late night relaxer"
Cheers
Thanks, these tracks are an excellent start. I was planning on including a John Martyn track, Small Hours seems an appropriate choice.
This Mortal Coil
Late Night
Apologies for multiple posts
but I happen to be putting together a CD with a similar theme for friends at New Year!
Stephen Duffy - In The Evening of Her Day
Great Comps
No worries at all, great minds think alike! Thanks for your suggestions, will be nicking a few for sure!
David Sylvian
Silver Moon
Boards of Canada - Kid For Today
Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent)
Air - Le Soleil Est Pres De Mois
Pink Floyd - A Pillow Of Winds
Richard Hawley hits the spot
Hawlicks
Yep, he certainly does, I often listen to him at night. This track does it for me as well, with a glass of Horlicks.
Continuing the train theme
this is a wonderful piece of music and definitely in the late night camp:
Dexter Gordon
Freddie Hubbard's trumpet solo from 3:23, is just about the most spine tingling sound I have ever heard.
Oddly i was listening to a DG album when I read this...
and went to find Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry on YouTube, but found this version:
Cowboy Junkies
Walking After Midnight
A couple more
(Hayling - FC/Kahuna)
(So Free It Knows No End - Threshold Houseboys Choir)
Alpha
Sometime Later
Soundtracks are always good of course
eg
Morphine
The Night, by Morphine.
Jesse Belvin - 'Goodnight My Love'
I've always found this kind of mellow
I Am Kloot
It's Just The Night
Brian Eno
Under Stars
Depeche Mode
Waiting For The Night
In The Wee Small Hours
The whole album is perfect.
Blind Willie Johnson
Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground
The Four Blazes - 'Night Train'
great track
Patrick, is this on a compilation I should know about?
Yes...
It's on a double CD called Money Honey: The Rise of the Black Vocal Group 1951-1953.
Well worth a punt.

Elcho - Stop The World
A lovely track, but very hard to find on cd. (Well, I've had no luck anyway.)
There's a mix
of it on here:

Many thanks
It's been a while since I last looked, but that's the cheapest (in Used) I've seen that at. Duly ordered. From what I've heard, that mix is the one I like.

Massive Thanks
Thanks to one and all for the excellent suggestions. My compilation may end up becoming a double CD, due to the quality posted on this thread. Look forward to putting the playlist together. Great stuff!
Oh, before you go...
Not sure if this will work, but ...
I've put most of these into a Spottylist:

I think you can add to it too?
Cheers Dude
Many thanks, I should have read your post first as I just started a playlist as well, but thanks anyway!
