is a new book about the demise of independent record stores. It sounded great and was generally well reviewed. I ordered it from Amazon but subsequently received a note that it had been withdrawn due to legal reasons. Assuming this to be a problem specifically with Amazon I ordered it from Waterstones. It has gone from being in stock to 'not available' and I suspect that they are also unable to stock it for the same reasons. Not only are independent record stores disappearing but we now can't even read about them. Anyone know the background behind this?

I don't know about ...
... this particular case, but from my many years of bookselling experience I can say that these legal problems usually turn out to be dull stuff involving copyright issues, rather than juicy but potentialy libellous stories as one might hope.
I was in my local Waterstone's in Oxford yesterday...
and it was on sale. Nearly bought it, it looks like an interesting read.
Avalanche in Glasgow were selling it recently
Certainly were selling it on Record Store Day.
Also available at the Bakewell Bookshop
Keefy owner of this wonderful shop is rightly rather proud that his emporium is worthy of a couple of pages in Last Shop Standing so he has a copy in pride of place in the window as well as a photocopy of the reference to the shop to alert passers by.
There are a few on ebay as well
Got a copy from good old ebay
Apparently he's a bit critical of various record shops who went out of business & I can only presume someone has took exception to this. I work in retail & sometimes you do choose to ignore the old "legal reasons" chestnut & sell regardless which we did in the case of many a 2manydjs compilation. Cue various weary reminders from head office along the lines of "stores are reminded that they are not to sell blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzz".
In short got one for £11 off ebay
I have heard
that they're planning to re-print it, minus the "issues" (whatever they were). Interestingly, it's published by Proper, who are also a CD distributor.
I think the author is also the head of Proper
the cheeky monkey
Last Shop Standing
I was fortunate enough to buy a copy I am not surprised that there has been some legal trouble. The book is an excellent read, though is extremely honest and revealing, though I can understand why somebody in the music industry is trying to get it stopped as it reveals lots of stories on chart hyping and corruption. Steve is correct when he says 'Not only are independent record stores disappearing but we now can't even read about them.It will be a pity if this book does'nt come out again.I would reccomend you track one down quick
