Kid Fears

I just posted something about the Giles cartoons on the Retro Chrimbo thread and it reminded me that as a child my nightmares were often haunted by a 'real life' version of Giles's Grandmother character who moved slowly and dalek-like after me and found me wherever I hid. She never actually caught me, but I woke up sobbing a few times.
Who or what scared you as a bairn?

Put her Straw Hat on Mr Hepworth
He becomes Grandma Giles!
A photo from a podcast a few months ago proves the point.
Dogs. Scared the crap out of me.
There was a Dalmatian who lived in the house behind ours (not alone: he had owners) who rejoiced in the name of Dominic. I had a recurring nightmare about him circling our house (a neat trick in itself, seeing as it was a semi) trying to get in at us, cowering in the living room. I remember the dream was always accompanied by a loud rhythmic thumping in my ears which I only realised when I was older must have been my heart.
Prokovief's Romeo & Juliet
It was used on a spooky jackanory once. Still gives me the heebigeebies a bit on the apprentice. On a more serious note my youngest daughter (aged 2) really freaks out when she hears the horn that the local scrap metal collectors play as they travel round. It seriously worries her out to the extent she obsessively talks about the "metal man"

Return To Oz.
The Wheelers.
Many many nightmares.
