Kid B

Although it was generally well-received on release, Radiohead's Amnesiac is regarded, by some, as a collection of Kid A leftovers and not a "proper" album. I've been re-listening to it this week and have concluded it's rather good. Are there any other Amnesiac enthusiasts out there?

Absolutely!
One of my favourite Radiohead albums - I listen to it much more than 'Kid A'.
I prefer its version of 'Morning Bell'. It has 'You and Whose Army?' which is one of the best things ever recorded.
Three of their very best singles.
And one of the best basslines ever ('Dollars and Cents').
So, yep, I absolutely bloody adore it.
Agreed. It is, generally, rather good, if a tad patchy.
Morning Bell, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong, the mighty Pyramid Song & one of my personal favourites Like Spinning Plates- all ace.
Even the twiddly, noodly tracks like Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors have aged quite well. However, You And Whose Army & Dollars And Cents I can live without.
How about you?
I really like ...
... it as an album - I Might Be Wrong and Morning Bell are probably my favourites. I'd like to hear some of the versions of "Knives Out" that they didn't use - it's a good song but it sounds a bit out of place - I'm always surprised when it comes on.
Funny you should mention!
I've been listening to Amnesiac on endless repeat during my Hellish nightshift, and I can't tell you how much it's helped get me through, from the opening refrain of "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case", to the gorgeous, spine-tingling Pyramid Song, and the haunting coda of You and Whose Army. And actually, the only let down for me is Knives Out - a little too similar to what went before, and for a band who constantly evolve with every album, seems a bit of a backwards step. (Admittedly, it was surely a left-over, but all the same.)
Also been listening to an awful lot of Brian Eno while here - something about the ambient tones melds nicely with this sterile, bleak, halogen-lit environment!
Amnesiac has the best 'out-takes' of all Radiohead albums
The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy, Kinetic, Worrywort, Cuttooth and the full length version of Life In A Glasshouse are all terrific (available on a 3 disc special edition).
Amnesiac could almost have been a double album in its own right, let alone a junior version of Kid A.
Having said all that, when faced with all this wealth of material, Radiohead made the right choices with Kid A. That album's sum is truly greater than its parts, something to be digested whole. The only quibble I'd make is that Glasshouse (full version) would make a better ending.
To put it one way
I listen to it far more often than I listen to 'King of Limbs'.
Its their best album
There is something so generous and open about it, and it tells a story so you can 'go there' for a while.
I think 'The Bends' and 'OK Computer' sound crabbed and bad tempered by comparison
amnesiac kid
I made a compilation of the best from both and it's wonderful. Not sure where it is right now.
I do believe that Morning Bell on Kid A is superior though. Breaks my heart, that song.
The Daily Mail
Nothing to do with Amnesiac but two songs available to hear today.
Staircase
I think both of these songs are really good.

Why the sodding piss...
...weren't those songs on KOL? They're better than absolutely everything else on the record!
Haven't listened to it for years..
..but I'm going to dig it out.
The spell started to fade with Amnesiac for me
I loved Kid A, and I'm a huge fan of ambient & electronic music in general, but Amnesiac where where they started to disappear up their own ambition as far as I'm concerned.
Now every album Radiohead put out, I find myself wondering "well, it's been ten years. Have you found the tunes yet?"
It has moments...
...that are more transcendentally beautiful than almost anything else they've recorded. I find Pyramid Song almost hard to listen to, it's so intensely gorgeous. You And Whose Army is one of my favourite Radiohead songs. I love the version of Morning Bell - much preferable to the Kid A one. I Might Be Wrong is amazing - what a riff! What amazing harmonic resolutions! Knives Out is great. Glass House is beautiful. I love Packt's paranoid mutter.
But then there's all the pointless toss. Pull/Pulk? Hunting Bears? Dollars and Cents? PISS OFF!
And anyone who's ever heard the live recording of Like Spinning Plates can only conclude that the album version must have been done out of nothing more than smartarse bloody-mindedness. A beautiful, beautiful tune, rendered purposeless and inert by needless electronic tinkering.
