Keep on running

Molesworth's picture

I'm of an age and of a job that means I have to force myself down to the gym a couple of times a week to get some exercise and so I get on the treadmill for 30 to 45 minutes.

To block out the godawful racket they pump out of the speakers there, I take the mp3 player and I've found that certain albums work when you're running and some don't.

My personal recommendations for getting the best out of your running are the Rolling Stones - 40 Licks (cd1) and Hole - Celebrity Skin.

I've tried playing some prog, but all those tricky time signatures tend to make you fall off the treadmill. For some reason, The Beatles don't really cut it either.

Anybody got any other suggestions?

Jeff Beck

His album "You had it coming" has mad techno like rhythms, samples, wild female vocals, , cars revving uphowling guitar - fab for the gym.

Its about the mix

A constant seach for the optimum workout playlist - but its a moving target - I have found that a mix of the familiar and new works best. I find you dont actually run "to" the music - but just enough beat and - well - the seems obvious - you got to like the songs. My runs can take up to 2 hours - so distraction is necessary. Changed on maybe a monthly basis

Current playlist includes the following:
Alejandro Escovado
Arcade Fire
Black Crowes and Keys
Grinderman
Bruce
Jody Raffoul
Kings Of leon
Matthew Ryan
The National
New PornographersRaconteurs
Radiohead
Tom Petty
Wilco
