Katie Melua - The Flood

Do yourself a favour and look this up on youtube or whatever. Just saw her perform it on the Graham Norton show.
I have never really rated Katie Melua before but this is terrific. Sounds (and looks) like Kate Bush doing a Bond theme.

Never been a fan,
but I think she deserves props for going in a different direction. Not a Womble in sight.
A very talented girl.
A very pretty girl as well. But it does concern me somewhat that her fanbase seems to entirely consist of slightly sinister sociopathic middle-aged blokes.
I agree with that...
... but I don't think you're sinister. As for the song, it's Lloyd Webbertastic!
Hey!
That's what I call a perfect fit then Lenny (*googles Katie Melua*)
Too Sweet to be Wholsome
Katie Melua, a.k.a. Rebecca, of Sunnybrook Farm.
usually too twee for me
but I DO love this record. Been waking up with it in my head for the last week at least.
Wogan thinks she's wonderful
She seems slightly medicated, a bit dim.
I do think this is fabulous
and noticeable that Batt is not involved. In interviews I've seen with her she has an interesting and eclectic taste in music, which made her more anodyne back catalogue seem slightly incongruous.
I know Radders and Maconie were debating how much they liked the tempo change. They were split. Me? I love it.
Mike Batt is still her manager
And it is my mission, my mission I tell you, to find out whether there is anything dark and possibly sado-masochistic behind that sweet innocent exterior....(*returns to googling Katie Melua*)
Oi. No
you can join the bloody queue with the rest of us, mate... ;)
from her new album
I'd love to kill you with a kiss
I'd like to strike you down with bliss
I'd like to tie you up in knots
until your heart stops
I'd love to kill you with a glance
I'd like to put you in a trance
I'd like to drug you with my scent
and use you in the moment
I'd love to kill you while you eat
The pleasure would taste so sweet
I'd like to open up your skin
and wander there within
I'd love to kill you by a stream
When noone can hear my baby scream
And then I'd run away and be free
the sweetest victory
I love to watch you in your sleep
Cause you don't have power over me
And when you're awake I'm undone
Under your spell - in hell
Her new album is surprisingly good actually
I have always been a fan of her voice, but have thought that the Remember You're A Womble Hitmaker could have tried harder with some of the lyrics on her earlier albums. "There are 9 million bicycles in Beijing - that's a thing we can't deny" etc. Also a lot of the music could have been given a kick up the arse, rather than aiming for the Lloyd-Webber musical audience.
The William Orbit production has made her sound more trip-hop, and she's all the better for it. I wish the new album every success.
