Kate & Mike introduce the new issue of The Word
Still a little dazed by successive festival weekends, Kate Mossman and the near-legendary "Seventies" Mike Johnson have taken time out of their crushing schedules to film an unscripted, unrehearsed, one-take introduction to the August issue of The Word, out this week.
Also in the new edition: Heath Ledger, rare pictures of John Lennon, David Byrne, The Word's teenage quiz, the best and worst aliens ever, David Gilmour, the humiliation of record buying, Ry Cooder, Black Kids, Al Green, Stan Collymore, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Jackie Chan, Randy Newman, music websites to change your life, Ben Kingsley, and over 20 pages of reviews.

The CD is absolute quality!
Think this is one of the best "Now Hear This!" CD's you have done..Agree with Mr.H about The Silver Seas, loving Get Well Soon and old friends like Aimee Mann,Al Green and Sharon Shannon are sounding fantastic. Will be making great use of the free Amazon next day delivery offer and stumping up lots this month i think (Wot credit crunch!)
Just a thought...The Best Dead Rock Star, is it creeping up to the edge of the good taste boundry?
Love the mag,the podcast and the website...any need in your office for a 46 year old office intern? It all looks such good fun!
Yahoo Sarah Silverman!
Archie, forget Audrey Tautou and check out page 37! Who needs Loaded?
Grrr
Since I'm a Johnny Foreigner, I pay twice as much to get it twice as slowly, which means mine is still languishing in a shed at Heathrow, most likely, but I'll get back to you when it eventually arrives.
Same here Archie...
... still waiting here in the far off island of.....Ireland!!!
Two things
1. Does that reference to "one take" mean what I think it means - that previous months' oeuvres have involved several takes?
2. Seventies has got a proper voice on him. Get his hind parts on the podcast!
Hello Readers!
Yes. Yes, he has.
Where's the beard?
Now come on, Word people - just how many photos are there of George Harrison sporting an outrageous beard? You could have chosen any one of hundreds. So not only have you departed from the beard theme, you have done so with knowing irony. You scamps.
Where’s the perm?
Don’t know how to upload pictures but George had one of those footballers perms in the late ’70s. He was well into Formula 1 too. Weird bloke really: part mystic guru, part Jeremy Clarkson.
I hate to be the first one
I hate to be the first one to spot an error in this month's magazine - no, actually, I love it, so here goes...
In the "Finger The Fakes" column, you cast aspersions on King Sunny Ade - who is in fact genuine Nigerian royalty (I don't know exactly how royal that is, but there you go).
I'm looking....
forward to getting my copy earlier in future now that I've finally subscribed!
Sonic Boom.
A Sonic Boom for the heart!
At last the new thinking woman's man!
Seventies, you have me fumbling for my fondue set.
Lets hear more of this mans velvet voice on the pod cast.
I'm looking forward to getting my copy
if it ever arrives.
Also, Seventies Mike - what a voice!!!! Get him on Radio 2 now with a documentary about something seventies, like the three day week or somesuch.
Teen Quiz
I -Hate- Quizzes, mostly because they tend to just look like page fillers. On the other hand, I usually enjoy the 99% true thingy, being an anorak at heart who randomly absorbs interesting trivia. Sometimes I even know which one is the fake, or can guess it correctly. Being at least slightly interested in the questions/answers or sometimes able to actually solve a quiz are very important plus points, in my opinion.
Great CD again, BTW, after a few IMO merely so-so efforts earlier in the year. I am sick up to here (points to where hairline used to be) with cloned jangly guitar bands. Your CDs have far less of them than the competition, thankfully. May it continue to be so.
Hurrah...
... my 1st subscription magazine hit my hall floor to-day.
Ben Kingsley
Just saw the picture on the Contents page and my initial reaction was:
"Wow! Bono without his shades on!"
Seventies Mike - Rennaisance Man
If you think Seventies Mike has a nice voice, you should hear him playing the congas!
