Kate Bush to play Glastonbury!
Watching Glasto coverage on the beeb has long been one of my televisual highlights.I find coverage of similar events somehow characterless in comparison (no matter who's on the bill).
I did my time in the festival trenches many years ago so it's a guilt-free pleasure.
This year none of the headliners really appeal but so far my highlights have been-
BB King-I saw him live 30 years ago doing almost exactly the same set but this was even better!
Primal Scream
Anna Calvi - an impressive set with occasionally ferocious guitar work.I think the tv director was as fascinated as I was with the lady providing harmonium, percussion and 2nd guitar.
It was when I retired for the night and set about choosing an album to fall asleep to (Director's Cut) that the penny dropped...
Has it ever occurred to anybody to actually ASK Kate Bush if she'd like to play Glastonbury?
Surely a match made in heaven?

A match made in heaven?
A singer who hates performing and suffers badly from stagefright coupled with one of the biggest festivals in the world broadcast live on TV?
Of course I'd love to see it but I don't think she'll be getting on any stage anytime soon.
Aside from those perfectly good points...
Whilst it would be a huge coup, I'm not sure how well her 'drama student' style of performing would go down with a Pyramid stage audience. I think a lot of the younger element would find it dated and, frankly, a bit risible.
She's hardly going to come bounding on stage with a big "Hello Glastonbury, let's get this place rocking!" is she?
Yes, she's no Florence+the Machine
that's for sure.
and
thank feck for that.
From the point of view of the television coverage…
the problem last year was stopping Florence from appearing at every opportunity.
I think a much more suitable venue...
for her live comeback would be a Word In Your Ear gig. Isn't that right Kate?
Kate! Please do A Word In Your Ear!
I'd like to meet Patrick Crowther. If that's what it takes then...
Nice idea
I would be monumentally surprised if she agreed to do Glastonbury, but I think that IF she did - it would work.
I can see what stimpy means with the 'drama student' comment, but to be honest, can any of us really say what her performing style would be like now? I think she has always been a canny operator, though, and would come up with something visually and sonically stunning. I can imagine it being a big theatrical presentation, which - of course - she wouldn't have to tour. It could be a huge one-off statement.
Also, after seeing Elbow's set on TV, it struck me how the right band can still 'own' a crowd without necessarily making an unholy racket. Some of those tunes are so measured and sparse, but the masses were hanging on every note. So I don't think KB's 'non-ROCK' tendencies would be a problem, either.
Sigh. If only.
