Just me ?

bargepole's picture

Am I the only person still not to have received their magazine in the post this month. I appreciate the weather has caused disruption, but have received postal deliveries each and every day. Email to subscrition company has elicited no response - help!!!

0

No, Bargepole is not alone

Haven't had mine either

0
Molesworth | 13 December 2010 - 8:08pm

Scrap that

just arrived

0
Molesworth | 14 December 2010 - 12:07pm

I haven't got mine either.

I haven't got mine either. No worries but not snow here for a couple of days

0
bogeys | 13 December 2010 - 8:09pm

There are delays for some

I imagine there's some catching up to do - this morning we were told that certain areas of the country haven't had any post for nine days. Drop us an e-mail if nothing's shown up by the end of the week, and we'll put a replacement in the mail.

0
Fraser Lewry | 13 December 2010 - 8:28pm

Yup

Late last week a newsagent in Edinburgh told me the newsstand issues of the Word were "late" and it was only today (Mon) I finally tracked one down in a local newsagent...

0
Glenbervie | 14 December 2010 - 12:15am

As a postie

(for which I apologise), I can confirm that there are horrendous amounts of backlogged mail surging through the system at present. I have today been delivering Private Eyes (should have been last Wednesday) but am also still waiting for my copy of The Word.

It'll all work out fine in the end. Er......

2
renkadima | 13 December 2010 - 8:49pm

No sign of mine yet...

...but I live near Sheffield and the snow was really bad.

0
Mr Sparks | 13 December 2010 - 8:55pm

No snow in this part of Bedfordshire (yet)

No magazine either. Was going to try ringing subscriptions but I guess I'll just be patient.

0
Chris Young | 13 December 2010 - 9:07pm

Surely

"Just Bargepole"?

4
Dave Amitri | 13 December 2010 - 9:39pm

Bargepole

stands corrected :-)

6
bargepole | 13 December 2010 - 9:53pm

Good man

remember those that fought for the right to be "third person" ;o)

3
Dave Amitri | 13 December 2010 - 10:00pm

Derbyshire

No sign as yet...I did get a ten day old "Time" though.
I'm just flicking through back issues and re reading Dirk Gently.
Dum-de-dum, de-dum.

0
PT | 13 December 2010 - 9:47pm

Not yet reached...

... monkey-hanger land - but thanks for the update, Fraser.

0
Reno Dakota | 13 December 2010 - 10:19pm

Monkey Hanger Land

Any relation to Brede?

1
Spartacus Mills | 14 December 2010 - 10:47am

Finally arrived...

... and all is well with the world.

0
Reno Dakota | 24 December 2010 - 6:53pm

Leicestershire ...

nothing here either - i bought one from Smiffs - fed up with waiting - i rang subscriptions and a nice lady added another month for me.

0
plumb1909 | 13 December 2010 - 10:36pm

Another Leics vote

Saw it in Smiths too, but managed to restrain myself from buying a copy.

0
sjp808 | 14 December 2010 - 12:58am

Leicestershire is obviously a problem

We've been getting some post, but no Word as yet.

0
Handsome.P.Wonderful | 14 December 2010 - 10:23am

One's arrived

But not sure if it's the original finally appearing or the replacement copy that the subsciption company said that they were going to send.

0
sjp808 | 19 December 2010 - 3:05pm

still no sign

in deepest yorkshire.
how does one go about obtaining a replacement from distributors - it appears from other postings some subscribers may have received them?

0
bargepole | 20 December 2010 - 1:42pm

I tried this:

I sent a mail to "word@servicehelpline.co.uk" and got a reply within a couple of days.

They said the replacement would be with me in "7 to 10 days" and one turned up in about four days, so still not entirely sure if that was the original shaking loose from the backlog, or the replacement!

0
sjp808 | 22 December 2010 - 12:03am

Well I got mine on time in darkest N. E. Scotland

...not that I'm bragging at all.

0
David Sutherland | 13 December 2010 - 10:43pm

No sign in Glasgow

Private Eye is also somewhere in the post backlog. Some bills have made it, we got our first post for 9 days this morning.

0
el hombre malo | 13 December 2010 - 10:54pm

Don't Panic!

Durham neither.

I, too, have the dubious 'pleasure' of working for Royal Mail (not at the sharp end, though) and am not only waiting for the mag but also 3/4 CDs that were dispatched the week before last. So I'm grumbling to myself with each day that passes but trying to bear in mind that the snow couldn't have come at a busier time for the postal network.

0
Ghost | 13 December 2010 - 11:20pm

Magazine arrived

this morning!

Still waiting for one of the CDs though (sent before Word)

0
Ghost | 16 December 2010 - 12:09am

Nor me.

That's 3 months in a row now. I wonder if that's a hint?

0
Billybob Dylan | 13 December 2010 - 11:56pm

No post in Stafford

and consequently, no Word.

0
Steerpike | 14 December 2010 - 12:05am

Post in Lichfield

which is close to Stafford but still no Word. Was thinking about buying it from local shop who has had it in stock for a week and telling the subs department to forget about it. But then i thought of messrs Hepworth, Ellen et al and realised Word is for life not just for Christmas.

0
Steve Turner | 14 December 2010 - 12:14am

Same here so no spoilers please!

If we could just avoid in-depth discussions about the contents for a few more days?

0
Skuds | 14 December 2010 - 12:21am

Late delivery here...

... but that's not uncommon, even in the finest of weather.

But have received my other subscribed-to UK magazine no bother.

0
Nicodemus | 14 December 2010 - 3:28am

Nor in North Yorkshire

Here in Whitby and Scarborough, shops seem to have them now but nothing at home just yet.

But good things come to them as wait.

0
illuminatus | 14 December 2010 - 3:53am

Hello from Suffolk - a subscription copy-free zone.

Kate and Mark may well be ushering in christmas with a new edition of The Word. I'm not.

0
skirky | 14 December 2010 - 11:43am

Not in this part of Suffolk

any more

0
StuartReeves | 16 December 2010 - 11:06pm

Still not arrived in Milton Keynes

but this is pretty much the norm: people post about the contents and I have to go into WH Smith to browse a copy to see what they're on about. I'm seriously thinking about moving to a small rural town in Australia because it gets there quicker than it does to MK.

0
Mark JF | 14 December 2010 - 12:02pm

I've got mail!

... Word is here. World saved!

0
Steerpike | 14 December 2010 - 12:58pm

BIRMINGHAM

Postmans just been - still nothing

0
makpoole | 15 December 2010 - 9:25am

Still waiting....

Still waiting....

0
Mr Sparks | 16 December 2010 - 10:31am

Glasgow Update

I just got home and it's here. post seems now to have returned to normal.

0
el hombre malo | 16 December 2010 - 10:14pm

Got home...

...and it's still not here. Getting pissed off to be honest...and it's snowed again!

0
Mr Sparks | 16 December 2010 - 10:34pm

postie's been....

.... and STILL no mag !

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 1:47pm

oh aye....

... and i e-mailed Word about it yesterday.... no reply.

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 1:49pm

must be..

....too busy compiling "the ultimate Christmas playlist"... thanks !

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 2:33pm

Who did you e-mail?

While we're pretty good at responding quickly to e-mail at the magazine, the subscription company takes a little more time.

Either way, the same situation applies: there's a massive backlog of mail in the post office system currently. As far as we can tell, deliveries fall into two categories: those that arrived when they should - at the beginning of last week - and those that have started to arrive over the last few days. I imagine this is all made worse because of the build-up to Christmas.

0
Fraser Lewry | 17 December 2010 - 2:37pm

i used....

... the contact button at the bottom of this page.

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 2:42pm

And

which option did you pick from the dropdown menu?

0
Fraser Lewry | 17 December 2010 - 2:44pm

can't ...

...remember

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 2:47pm

OK

It's just that each one goes to a different recipient. Some are here, some at the subscription company, who can take up to 48 hours to respond, sometimes longer.

Sorry about the delay - we'd obviously hoped that the Post Office would have got through its backlog by now - my Friday prediction was based on advice from them - but it looks like they're not even close.

0
Fraser Lewry | 17 December 2010 - 2:54pm

no probs....

... i've had my rant now... i know it's not your fault... i'll go back to patient mode now, and look forward to it (as always) when it eventually arrives.
thanks
ps... album of the year..... Motorhead's new one ..... whooohoooooo !

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 3:04pm

and was responding to your advice...

...."I imagine there's some catching up to do - this morning we were told that certain areas of the country haven't had any post for nine days. Drop us an e-mail if nothing's shown up by the end of the week, and we'll put a replacement in the mail."

0
mojitojoe | 17 December 2010 - 2:44pm

Le Nouveau

Word est arrivé chez moi aujourd'hui. Yippee!!

(sorry, wanted to give it a Beaujolais Nouveau feel)

1
illuminatus | 17 December 2010 - 7:06pm

Friday night

and still nothing!

0
Mr Sparks | 17 December 2010 - 8:11pm

Still nothing here either

And in Oxfordshire we've had less snow than pretty much everyone, yet the post is still late on the whole, and the Word is the longest outstanding item I'm expecting. If I was cynical I might wonder whether the Royal Mail feels less obliged to be punctual, since expectations have been lowered. Perish the thought.

0
Malc | 18 December 2010 - 1:21am

and still we wait

no mag yet as of saturday lunchtime - at this rate the new issue will be out before the current one arrives and it will be a Word free Xmas!
this is the disadvantage of subscribing of course - at the mercy of Royal Mail, who are apparently prioritising letters and parcels - so where does that leave mags?
almost tempted to go and buy a copy from the newsagents who've had their copies for ten days or so now, except loathe to waste a fiver!

0
bargepole | 18 December 2010 - 12:58pm

Monday night - 20th December

And still no word of my Word! Have contacted the subscription company, but no response yet.

0
Mr Sparks | 20 December 2010 - 8:19pm

Same here

Phoned the relevant number and another on the way. Adam Crozier has already fucked up the FA and now he is doing the same with the royal mail. He has spouted much about improving efficiency and ending certain 'spanish practices' but the service is now pretty terrible. Our post arrives at 3pm in dribs and drabs and i have no confidence in certain presents arriving before the big day.

0
woodface | 22 December 2010 - 12:17am

Mr Crozier...

...has already moved on (big cheque in back pocket) to no doubt destroy some other institution.

Rumour has it he left a note saying "Sorry, there's no money left!" on the desk for his successor.

0
renkadima | 24 December 2010 - 5:30am

and so the faithful are rewarded

Bargepole is pleased to announce the much anticipated and long delayed arrival of The Word on Wednesday December 22nd. Armchair and cosy fire beckon.

Merry Christmas to one and all!!
