Irrefutable Fact

Bob's Christmas album is head and shoulders above anything he's done since Desire. I firmly believe this.

Blood In My Eyes

This video is up there with the one for "Blood In My Eyes" - superb!

0
masked tortilla | 28 November 2009 - 3:31pm

I like that

I was ready to guffaw but that's great. Shame they got Alan Rickman to play Bob though.

0
Leedsboy | 28 November 2009 - 3:35pm

Looks more like Frank Gallagher to me ...............

Bob knows how to have a party .....
Scatter !

0
Hot Cider | 28 November 2009 - 11:59pm

Has he asked Nigella Lawson to help out with the cooking?

She seems to appear, dancing, in characteristic black dress and white cardigan about 0:40.

0
Melville | 28 November 2009 - 3:40pm

Wig?

What's with Dylan's mane? He looks like an older version of him from Kasabian?

Surely Dylan's wearing a wig? Isn't he? ISN'T HE??

0
badger_king | 28 November 2009 - 3:47pm

Number one at Christmas?

In a sane world, surely.

0
David Hepworth | 28 November 2009 - 3:52pm

Earlier appearance of "the wig"

At Newport a couple of years back. Made no sense then either..

http://blog.kir.com/archives/images/dylan_newport_2002.jpg

0
masked tortilla | 28 November 2009 - 4:12pm

Why is Bill Oddie on accordion?

The wig: well it conveniently hides the face of Bob's dance-double, so that might explain it.

0
Adman | 28 November 2009 - 4:53pm

According to the guy who made the video

It's Dylan dancing...

0
masked tortilla | 28 November 2009 - 5:07pm

That's the second time I've underestimated his Bobness

this Christmas! :-)

(The wig is just insanity then, or a tribute to Scrooge...)

0
Adman | 28 November 2009 - 5:20pm

Accordion

I thought it was Benny Hill in his Chitty Chitty Bang Bang outfit.

0
Gatz | 28 November 2009 - 5:50pm

Bill Oddie?

I thought it was Rowland Rivron. Or Richard Dreyfuss.

0
Occam | 28 November 2009 - 8:20pm

My future wife

... is the one coming down the stairs at the beginning.

0
Albert Edward | 28 November 2009 - 4:58pm

Good

grief

0
Sheev | 28 November 2009 - 5:02pm

Can you imagine

the conversation?
'Bob, we'd like you to make a video.'
'Great - I'll go and get my wig.'

or

'Bob, we'd like you to make a video.'
'Only if I can wear my wig.'

1
kirby | 28 November 2009 - 5:31pm

The World Will Be

a much duller place when Dylan isn't in it anymore.

3
Pat Carty | 28 November 2009 - 5:36pm

Here here...

I hope he croaks for a long time yet before he croaks.

3
Patrick Crowther | 28 November 2009 - 6:39pm

I was expecting

something excruciatingly bad. I enjoyed both the video and the song.

0
Carl Parker | 28 November 2009 - 5:44pm

the video

I stopped listening to City v Hull for this! God IU hate Christmas

0
andromedia99 | 28 November 2009 - 5:47pm

it's ace

I was expecting something bad, but that's great. The video and the song. It's like the Pogues doing Polka. It's fun, remember that?

0
Mavis Diles | 28 November 2009 - 6:24pm

With no trace of sarcasm...

Bob's Christmas songs are making me feel Christmassy. This is a most unusual feeling for me, seeing as I normally make the pre-spectral visitation Scrooge seem like a bundle of laughs.

0
Patrick Crowther | 28 November 2009 - 6:25pm

i'm glad

people are saying positive things. I've heard ?Danny Baker and Adam & Joe playing clips and sneering while I've thought - actually I quite like this - it's quite charming.

0
badartdog | 28 November 2009 - 6:37pm

The Candyman

Danny wasn't slagging it off, he pointed people in the direction of the video and then proceeded to play the song and praise it. This sort of thing is right up Mr Baker's street

0
Andy Mackenzie | 29 November 2009 - 1:03pm

Actually

I've just listened to one of his five live podcasts, and Danny did indeed give Dylan's Christmas album a good shoeing. Apologies

0
Andy Mackenzie | 30 November 2009 - 3:08pm

Never listen to the critics ...

Well sometimes they may have a point but not this time.

I waited until this week to download the album (never listen to a Christmas album in October).

Both myself and the FPO think it's great, a lot of fun and this is the stand out track.

0
Los Aromas | 29 November 2009 - 9:07am

Song and video

Both brilliant. Although, if you were to replace Bob with Macca, I suspect he'd be slaughtered for it.

0
billyous | 28 November 2009 - 6:56pm

has everyone

taken complete leave of their senses?

1
Sheev | 28 November 2009 - 6:59pm

I'm with you on this one.

I think too much mulled wine has been consumed!

1
Adhoc Man | 28 November 2009 - 9:07pm

You don't like it

Others do.

0
billyous | 28 November 2009 - 7:01pm

After all I'd heard about the Christmas album

If the rest of it is half as good as that, I might even buy it.

If only TOTP were still on, Dylan could have a number 1!

0
Thomas the Rhymer | 28 November 2009 - 7:19pm

Anyone else heard the new

Val Doonican album? Celtic ex-Tiger schadenfreude in a rocking chair stylee from the old country with knobbly jumpers on. Awesome. Best since the goat one.

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 28 November 2009 - 8:04pm

it's ace

it has this on it ...

2
Glenbervie | 28 November 2009 - 8:16pm

Charlie McCoy

Played with Dylan on Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline.

0
masked tortilla | 29 November 2009 - 11:37am

Isn't that the house from, well, Animal House?

I'm sure I recognise the stairs.

0
skirky | 28 November 2009 - 9:17pm

It's great

enjoy it for enjoying it's sake. It's fun, it's christmas, it's Bob Dylan, but it shouldn't be, should it? Bob Dylan, The Darkness, Bruce Springsteen and Peter Kay who'd have thought they'd ever have anything in common. I'm off for a mince pie and a clementine. Ho, Ho, Ho!

0
Dave Amitri | 28 November 2009 - 11:36pm

Great stuff

Enjoyed that! I'd love to hear Shane MacGowan have a crack at it though.
Or Susan Boyle?

0
McLongWhiteCloud | 29 November 2009 - 4:12am

They don't make 'em like that any more

I was just thinking the other day, why is it that we still have Slade and Wizzard at Xmas? Because no one has made a decent Xmas song in the last 30 years (well maybe they have but I can't think of one). So bring it on Bob, we need something else to listen to while we wander round the shops at Xmas.

0
Nick Duvet | 29 November 2009 - 7:26am

What about...

... Fairytale Of New York? Although that's 22 years old now.

You know, that Dylan song wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

0
Billybob Dylan | 29 November 2009 - 9:09am

Less

than a ringing endorsement

Bit like Mark Twain's observation "Wagner's music is not as bad as it sounds"

0
Sheev | 29 November 2009 - 9:58am

I'm sure even as

we speak Michael Gray is writing about the invention of a new genre
Klezmer-Country (with, as you say, a dash of Polka)

-- great stuff imo, god bless us one and all ...

0
SpaceBoy | 29 November 2009 - 10:12am

Coming next Christmas...

'Bob Dylan's Pan Pipe Yuletide'.

0
Patrick Crowther | 29 November 2009 - 10:16am

Dylan writes tune shock

With a hook and all. What is the world coming to?

0
magneticfields | 29 November 2009 - 11:08am

Not written by Dylan

No originals on the Christmas album...

0
masked tortilla | 29 November 2009 - 11:38am

Must Be Santa

as recorded by Brave Combo was played on Dylan's radio show a couple of years back. His treatment is pretty similar.

0
Lucas Hare | 29 November 2009 - 5:37pm

Thanks Lucas

I liked their Mission Impossible

and apparently Dylan liked their Hey Jude, though I'm not sure what Macca would make of this HJH cover:

0
SpaceBoy | 2 December 2009 - 10:14am

More thanks

The listing of U.S. presidents amongst the reindeer seems to be a Dylan touch but great to hear the original.

0
Los Aromas | 2 December 2009 - 8:56pm

White Christmas

Bob & The Dylantones - if it works...

edit: nope. Anyone know how to embed a streaming MP3 from my hard drive?

0
Beany | 29 November 2009 - 9:29pm

That's Yule...

-tastic!!

0
bricameron | 2 December 2009 - 6:23am

Not bad ...

Is that Rhys Ifans in there?

0
ronne | 4 December 2009 - 10:20am

Bob the Teenager...

Photobucket

0
torrential1 | 6 December 2009 - 10:09pm

That was good

Didn't know he was capable of "fun".
