Joni

Of all Joni Mitchell's albums it's 'For The Roses' that I go back to most often. Almost as stark as 'Blue' and only slightly less resigned, nevertheless I draw fresh strength from it everytime. She's recently become characterised as a 'grumpy old woman' which I personally think is bollocks but there you go. Anyway, just incase anyone on here has been put off Joni because of this FTR is currently available for less than 4 quid on Amazon. You won't regret it!

Very nice

Am now four quid lighter. Thanks.

Now try Hejira...

The greatest album ever made in the history of popular music. I listened to it today, for the umpteenth time, and by Song For Sharon I was in tears again. Songs of transcendent brilliance, sung and played by people who cared as much as they were capable of expressing that care. Every song could supply you with a couplet or two, more or less at random, that would make most songwriters give up. For now, try

White flags of winter chimneys
Wave truce against the moon
In the mirrors of a modern bank
From the windows of a hotel room

She is, however, indubitably a grumpy old woman now.

PS our daughter is named Amelia, uncoincidentally

Don Juan

I just bought Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, which I'd never heard before. Christ, it is fantastic.
