I respect Johnny, just don't enjoy him...

... apart from Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart and Beans For Breakfast. Probably says more about me.

I watched the Later compilation

..and was that Jim Reid I spotted at Johnny's elbow in the acoustic session. Playing wistfully with his unruly hair he was...

By the way, Christmas gifts, borders etc, I *heart* this blog...

I like Johnny Cash...

but his early records do make Status Quo seem like the epitome of restless musical invention. I don't mind acts that stick to a formula, but the Cash rhythm does get a bit tedious after you've heard it on 100 songs.

It was fab

And not just Cash, but the succession of guests from his TV show. Duets with Dylan and Joni, Derek and the Dominos (segueing into a Carl Perkins/Clapton/Cash romp through Matchbox) and many, many more.

And this - Ray Charles taking Ring of Fire waaay down into Soulsville!

I saw this and thought

he was off his tits. Do you think he was ON something?

Here's that Perkins / Clapton / Cash version of 'Matchbox'...

...and I have to say I think Carl has the better of Eric here:-

San Quentin

The thing that always strikes me about the San Quentin film is how articulate the prisoners are. Does anyone know what happened to any of them, particularly the guy who was on death row but had been repreieved?

It sticks in my mind because the last time I watched it coincided with this footage of their slightly less articulate Scottish equivalents. Compare and contrast:

watched

But not thoroughly. I skipped back and forth through the televisual seas, drifting restlessly. Plus, on Comedy Central, they were showing the 5 best South Park episodes. Thankfully the best was voted to be "Scott Tenorman Must Die" which is superb. In a Radiohead / Hannibal lecter type way.

Anyhow, onto Cash. And the bits I saw. Likewise, I thought that Ray Charles' "Ring Of Fire" was by far the best thing musically. Whilst I enjoy Johnny Cash, he can be a bit same-y at times. But I digress. As I was flicking through I caught the end of a duet Cash was doing with a woman in a blue/yellow striped dress. And he kissed her forehead at the end? Who was said wide-faced strumpet? Was it his daughter or something? Only that I quite enjoyed it and was thinking about downloading it if possible. Thanks.
