John Grant, Liverpool

Larry Bee's picture

I know he has quite a following in these parts so i thought i might submit my first post ever to keep the Liverpool element er...posted about the John Grant gig I've just stumbled on.
19th August at the Static Gallery on Roscoe Lane (staggering distance from the Grapes and the Pilgrim if anybody needed any more encouragement).
Despite being a pretty frequent Liverpool gig goer I've never heard of the place which only adds to my already hard to contain excitement.
Tickets are a tenner, already sorted my GF and mine.
Any interest?

I hear

He should sack his sound engineer..... Amazing suite of songs tho'.

The sound was terrible when I saw him

But I think it was a venue problem rather than an engineering one. Play in a half-empty stone church and it will sound horrible.

Static Gallery

It's a really good venue. Saw Steve Mason from the Beta Band there a couple of weeks ago. It's an arty little cafe during the day.

The Same Guys...

..who put Steve Mason on are promoting the John Grant night and the last one was Midlake and before that I Am Kloot - both which were at the Williamson Tunnels which is a rather nice venue - and bizarre history. Apparently said Williamson was a bit rich and wanted to give employment to crafts people so they didn't lose their skils whilst there was no building so he got them to build miles and miles of tunnels going no where.

He was extremely good last week in Portsmouth

where he played with Midlake. Sound was clear, I could hear the words, his voice sounded even better than on the cd. Whereas Midlake made a lot more noise and inevitably the subtleties got lost. Still good though. Definitely worth seeing.

Leicester

I am going to see him a week on Sunday. Very much looking forward to it; the venue (The Musician (I think) only holds 220 people.
