John Grant for Latitude
Some press releases are greeted with more excitement than others at the Word - indeed, most are swiftly deleted or tossed casually towards the recycle bin - but the one that arrived today telling us that John Grant (left) had been added to the Latitude Festival bill actually prompted a cheer.
Grant's wonderful Queen Of Denmark album is probably the disc played most often in the office this year, so we're delighted he'll be appearing on the Obelisk Stage. Other new additions include Villagers, Rox and School of Seven Bells at The Word Arena, while the Sunrise Stage will play host to Frightened Rabbit, These New Puritans, Angus & Julia Stone and Lissie.
As usual, the complete line-up can be viewed at the Latitude Website, where tickets can also be purchased, while our own Latitude page is the best place for keeping up-to-date with the most up-to-date news.

Er....
...I fear your collective cheers were counterbalanced in G Towers by a shrug of sheer indifference.
Bah! Humbug! you old grump
The Czars was one of the best gigs I've been too so looking forward to Mr grant also school of seven bells is one my top plays according to last fm so that's good news too. The whole bills shaping up well .
Probably just me squire
but the truth is that I've never heard about any of the people in that post. My loss I guess. Although, to be honest, I don't really care about 'new' stuff much. ( I've probably got all the records I need ).
Many of them have been on the free cd
that comes with a well known music magazine but if you got enough pleasure & delight in your life already you're sorted I suppose.
Mmm...truth is
I've never heard anything on those CDs worthy of further investigation. Sadly.
Ahh well
How easy it is to damn the careers of over 800 artists in one well swoop.
Same here
I looked at the CD this month and went pah, fie and pah again. Never heard of any of the artists.
Then I listened to it in the car, and as usual I nearly crash the thing while struggling to look at the tracklist whenever I hear a real doozie. That John Grant is just lovely. There said it. You done it again.
John Grant
Investigate further. It's a damn fine album.
I'm sure it's lovely....
but I'm full up.
There's always room
for more. Well, that's what I told the GLW when I returned home today with some Dr John John and Little Feat box-sets.
And on that very point, how delightful is Roll Um Easy?
I'm with you
on re-issues. My last purchases have been the Caravan box and a PFM compilation of the Manticore years. I'm afraid I can't help it if I'm not really interested in 99 per cent of 'new' stuff I hear. The last 'new' thing I bought ( and liked ) was 'Illinoise' by Sufjan.
Incidentally, out of fairness, I checked out the Czars and...surprise surprise...I thought they were 'okay' in a shoulder-shrugging 'so what' kind of way. Chuck a stick around any US town and I reckon you'd hit about twenty such bands.
well America must be truly blessed
if it's towns are full of people who can sing like this, it must truly be the land of song!
Yes, most pleasant...
...in an Art Garfunkel-ish kind of way. Got a bit bored after two and a half minutes however. I could listen a hundred times and still not be able to hum it.
Song To The Siren
I'm a little surprised you don't know it. It's something of a classic old song by Tim Buckley, but it's been covered loads of times - Robert Plant, Sinéad O'Connor, Pat Boone, This Mortal Coil etc.
Hell, I guess
even some old music passes me by sometimes too. Maybe I should pay more attention at the back.
This news has made my day
I love the John Grant album and the fact that Midlake are already playing means a double dose. Now praying for good weather and no more volcanos.
Eddie G, give the album a listen. It's very bitter and twisted but also very uplifting.
