as to why this pointless prequel was greenlighted in the first place.
What's to be gained (apart from cash, of course)?

Carpenter talked
about doing a sequel in interviews dating back at least a decade. So why make this prequel instead of his sequel? I know what I would prefer to watch. Does anyone really care about the specifics of the backstory to the original film? Isn't the point of backstory to be something that doesn't need to be covered in detail?
It's got Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, though.
I just wish she always dressed like this, rather than all glammed up.
But yes. Pointless. I don't think mainstream Hollywood has had such a creatively bankrupt period in its entire history.
