Isn't the actor what plays Jimmy McNulty English anyway? AN old Etonian or somesuch?

Painfully unfunny episode

except for Reg Whatsisface. James May isn't very funny is he - or at least he's edited to appear that way.

Paul Merton seems to be losing interest

The basic pattern on the programme seems to be that Ian Hislop gets the comedian as a partner, and Paul Merton gets the journalist or public figure. It is probably quite hard to banter when you're sat next to Bob Crowe or Quentin Letts - but even allowing for that, he has been almost silent on a couple of recent episodes.

This was the basic pattern

But, recognizing your concerns, they tried doing it the other way recently (comedian with Paul, Serious Figure with Ian). It didn't really work. So it's back to the old way.

I don't think Merton really cares one way or the other. He messes around, the same as he's always done. If he's looking a little tired it's probably because he's a bit older these days. Doesn't stop him coming up with the odd moment of genius now and then.

(And I thought Bow Crowe was pretty good, although not in any way funny).
