Jimmy Calderwood

goatboyuk69's picture

This may be a slightly specialist topic but I'm aware the place is jumping with Jocko's and football fans. Usually they're both. I'd appreciate your comments.

Jimmy Calderwood has just been appointed as the manager of my beloved Kilmarnock FC. A man with the personal charisma of a table, the face of the scary wooden guy from the old milk advert and the voice of someone who should be drinking Buckfast in an Adventure Playground.

But, for some reason, the Scottish media are hailing the appointment as a masterstroke. The guys a genius apparently and we should be damned grateful for landing him. Does anyone know why I should be as delighted as I'm told I should be?

I've just seen his interview

on Sky Sports and I couldn't understand a word. So sorry can't help you, no doubt he was recently sacked from somewhere therefore was available. Oh and with that name he could only ever be a Scottish football manager.

to be fair to JC ...

... he did do well with the Dons 2004-07 and once he settled on a team with Langfield, Anderson, Clark, Severin, Nicholson etc as the backbone, it was 3rd place and the UEFA Cup

on the other hand, we were lucky in that UEFA Cup run, the football over seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09 was pretty woeful, and losing two domestic semi finals in spring '08 by insane second half organisational collapses (v Dundee Utd and QOS) says a lot for his crisis management style (ie it doesn't work) ...

on balance, he fashioned an effective if not pretty team that was decent for the SPL, but only managed to do that once over 2-3 seasons and didn't look anywhere near like doing it again once he lost players to the Championship down south; by spring 2009 it looked very much like he'd run out of ideas, unless someone had handed him a couple of million to go team rebuilding...

in conclusion: solid but far from exciting - and since Killie have less money than the Dandies, i don't see anything to jump up and down about (except perhaps not getting relegated)

But on Scottishfitba.net

You'd be cursing me to hell and praying for 4 deby games next season.

I would like nothing more than the resumption of the most intense, but most unknown, football rivalry outside the OF and Liverpool but it hopefully won't happen yet.

Relegation for Killie now means oblivion not gloating rights. Even Ayr fans dont want us to vanish. No decent fitba fan does.

We're in a poor state but I think we may have made a sensible appointment - the various genii on fitba forums seem to agree anyway - who will at least keep us safe.

All the best and I hope you get a stadium, and even a team, one day.

Would be great to see the

Would be great to see the derbies back - hopefully in the Premier League, but that seems a long way away! I wouldn't wish relegation on anyone, it's a horrible experience. Calderwood I suppose isn't that inspiring but seems like a safe pair of hands after what he's done at Dunfermline and Aberdeen.

What's this season's favourite pie?

Haven't been to Rugby Park for a while but always enjoyed the pies, best in the SPL.
Had a particularly good curry one a few seasons ago. Washed down with a cheeky Bovril nothing beat it!

Calderwood vs Jeffries

As a Motherwell fan I'm just worried that we get Jim Jeffries and his wee sidekick if the Craigie Broon and Archie Knox (a.k.a. Jack and Victor) appointment is only temporary!
