Jim Henson presents....Tommy!
While we were waiting for the Unthanks to come onstage tonight in a central London church, Jo, Mr Doods and myself somehow got on to casting a Muppet version of the 'Oo's filum of their rock opera as directed by the late Ken Russell
This is our pitch-
the cast is
Tommy\Daltrey..........Kermit

Pete Townshend\Tommy's dad..........Sam The American Eagle

Keith Moon.....Animal

John Enthwistle....Sgt Floyd Pepper

Cousin Kevin......Fozzie Bear
![]()
The Preacher......Gonzo the Great (with Zoot)
![]()
Uncle Ernie....Michael Caine

Tommy's stepdad\Ollie Reed....Dr Teeth

The Acid Queen \ Tommy's Mum....Miss Piggy (think "Pork N Beans")

The Doctor......Dr Bunsen Honeydew & Beaker

Pinball Wizard/Elton John......Rowlf

Sally Simpson......Janice

All music reimagined by Dr Teeth and the Elctric Mayhem

Any better casting ideas?

none whatsoever
but soon as it gets the green light, I'll be booking a ticket for opening night.
Statler and Waldorf
singing "We're Not Gonna Take it"?
Yes
We originally had S & W down to do the commentary on the DVD extras.
Oh yeah forgot that
they should be there with the real director and commenting on his commentary
Director: "now this song coming up....."
S: "oh weren't silent movies, great?"
W; "Yeah, due for a return any moment. If we're lucky"
I fancy Janice...
Does that make me a bad person?
No
I'm sure *loads* of people think Janice is a hottie.

Incidentally, I can highly recommend casting films with Muppets while waiting for a gig to start. The time flew by. And it is almost certainly what Ken Russell would have wanted.
I feel inadequate
Casting "Tommy" with Muppets would never have occurred to me in a million years.
Now, how about "Lair of the White Worm"...?
Could we expand to Sesame Street?
Bert would make an excellent Uncle Ernie. Something about him that always gave me the creeps. And Oscar the Grouch IS Oliver Reed as Tommy's dad
Yeah like you're thinking
Think we chose Dr Teeth for Ollie Reed cos he always looks a bit pissed to begin with.
Ernie as Uncle Ernie is spot on. Just imagine him in your head singing 'Tommy's Holiday Camp' waving his rubber duckie. this stuff writes itself!
Another alternative for Uncle Ernie was Crazy Harry who kept trying to blow the theatre up
Opening it up to Seasame Street might bring in Mr Snuffleufagus as Enthwhistle and maybe Big Bird as Tommy- would look great on the posters. But Kermit would have a fit if that happened
Reds under the bed
Feel a bit guilty and manipulated now I realise that the Muppets are part of the commie plot to brainwash my children:
