I am embarrassed to say until I read this obituary I didn't know of this guy. But bloody hell, I've heard his songs:

The guy
was one of the giants of popular music.
From overwrought epic 'Stay With Me' to the sultry shuffle of 'Cry Baby' at least one of his compositions will invariably turn up on any given compilation I make.
Dusty's finest?
Ace did a compilation a couple of years ago called something like The Jerry Ragovoy Story. My favourite Dusty song is one of his. Doesn't crop up on Dusty compilations much for some reason.
Yep...
....often gets left off comps because, amazingly, this didn't chart!
Nor did her fabulous 'I Will Come To You' in '68.
I was very surprised to learn
that he wrote 'Take a little piece of My Heart' as well, and young Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette does a nice version of that as well...
F--King weird
I kid you not: about 20 mins after my OP, this popped up on shuffle as I worked:
I have over 60 G of music to shuffle.
You Should Have.......
asked Jo Whiley about him !!!!! :-)
