Jeff Healey

I've just seen on the BBC news website that Jeff Healey has died.
He was a real talent and will be sadly missed in the Elliott house.

Jeff Healey

I feel he, like Robert Cray, was let down by the fact that he came to prominence in the late 80s, when production was at its most brash and unforgiving of blues guitarists. Always seemed like a nice chap when interviewed, fantastic live.
I found myself using a verbal shorthand to describe him to someone at work today: 'You know, blind feller who played the guitar on his lap' and feel bad about it. Take his physical singularities away and he was just a great musician. God bless, Jeff.

Saw him at the Town and Country

about 88/89 (I think )- absolutely incredible live, and as you say let down by that rotten eighties 'smooth blues' production sound.

It's worth downloading 'I'm Tore Down' from the 'Roadhouse'soundtrack to hear him as he should've sounded - with the added bonus of 'ITD' being one of his best solos.

Torn

Sad news indeed, a real talent. I agree, "Torn Down" is Jeff ta his best. R.I.P.

Funnily enough

Recorded "Roadhouse" the other day - JH was excellent in it - "See the light" still sounds great. He had a terrific tone, sort of distorted and a bit wah wah'd - I always thought he was much more fun than the more acclaimed at the time Robert Cray, with whom he was frequently compared but who I always found a bit limp. He did a great version of "While my guitar gently weeps" which I will listen to tonight with a glass of the good stuff.
