The erstwhile Wilco keyboard player, the one with the exotic hairstyle, has died, following hip surgery. I was not a great fan of Wilco beyond their first album, but I know they have quite a following. I learnt this news from my weekly plough thru' some of the mp3 blogs I like, learning also that he had produced a solo LP available for free downloading from his site. It is a shame I had heard of it only thru' his death, as it is a pleasant listen, laid back country-folk strumming of a sort that I know would appeal to many on this site.

A rather tragic
demise. It seemed like he never really got over leaving Wilco. At the time of his death he was taking legal action against Tweedy for royalties he believed he was owed from their video.
But fair play to Tweedy; a very dignified statement on the Wilco website regarding Bennett's death.
Just to add my two penneth
He was not only Wilco's keyboard player, but also a fine guitarist - I can't think of a better exponent of that fast country-pickin' style (on an electric) that sort of mimics a pedal steel(I'm sure there's a much snappier way of describing this, but can't think of it right now).
I learned of his death via a friend while out for a drink tonight. As a confirmed Wilco fan, I'm pretty shocked. I have to say he was a right miserable twat the one time that I met them all though.
A real shame
He brought a huge amount to the sonics of Being There and Summerteeth. Although he was left behind by Wilco in their quest for ever-more challenging music, he certainly helped them along the way, and then some. A very talented feller.
Here's to you, Jay.
