A follow on from Dave Amitri post. These sound surprisingly contemporary:
Am I the only person in this site who remembers the chaotic genius of Patrik Fitzgerald? I hope I'm not. If not I guess the first point of call is to Google A safety pin Stuck in my Heart.

sorry to add to my own post
But the first few minutes of this are very amusing. Spot the Word contributor:
The only PF I remembered when I saw this post was 'Safety Pin'
and that only from distantly remembered Peel shows.
Ugly as You ..
Off his grubby stories lp is fantastic. Believe he lives in Oz these days although he popped over a year or two back for a couple of shows.
I had a strange urge last year
and bought his 'very best best of' on CD. Very enjoyable it is too.
It has recently appeared on emusic

When I first heard
'Saftey Pin Stuck In My heart' I thought it was Graham Coxon. I still think that
Was Graham Coxon even out of short trousers in 1977? :-)
Thanks Chasps - I thought this had gone forever...
As a 13 year old I ordered the Safety Pin EP from Tony's Records in Redcar, an act of intense courage at the time. I remember the prog n heavy 'head' shop going entirely silent as my quavering voice broke through the fug of mouldering riffs to request a punk record. Expecting distain I was was rewarded with a "it's not in, but we'll order it" from the denimed hairy behind the counter. Elated, I paid my deposit (a whole 1 pound 25 pence), and ran off to the bus station next door to escape back to the moors.
I'm still waiting for them to phone to say it's in... I'm 46 now. I switched allegiances to a shop on Lindthorpe Road in Middlesbrough, and I hadn't the courage to go back to Tony's and ask. And when I had the courage, I'd moved on (thanks to John Peel).
I did visit Tony's again years later, but by then the shop had evolved and they even had a Dub Reggae section. I bought a Linton Kwesi Johnson in Dub LP, which turned out to be a mislabeled copy of John Martyn's Grace and Danger. And that was more than reward enough.
The shop is long gone, I expect my 1 pound 25 didn't help them much...
