Comments:
I've come late to a love of James, but it's beginning to develop into an obsession. This is part of their "An Evening With.." tour, where they are performing a number of older and less often heard songs with the 22-piece Orchestra of the Swan, and a 16-piece choir from the Manchester Consort. These extra layers added hugely to the experience, with many highlights - though I have to single out "Sometimes" as THE communal love-in of the night. Really lovely stuff, the band were together, tight, and clearly having a blast. Tim was charismatic as always, raising huge cheers every time he did some of his idiosyncratic dancing, and also going out into the crowd for a wee birl with one or two lucky audience members. Very few hits, but that did not take anything away from the experience.
The Audience:
Mostly as you'd expect, though I was sitting in front of a group who seemed to think that £50 a pop was just the right amount to pay for some background music to their loud chats.
Food & Drink:
A tasty wee fish supper, eaten out of the paper - with fingers, you do NOT need daft plastic forks for a fish supper - on the way to the venue. Average wine and beer at average city centre prices.
It Made Me Think...:
That James, and Tim Booth as frontman, are totally underrated by the vast majority of the public. But by their fans they are adored, as they should be.

James - The best live band I've seen
My own gigging commitments mean that I can't make the Albert Hall next week, so I drove up to the Birmingham Symphony Hall to see them on Monday night. Susie's comments are spot-on. It was an fantastic concert. You could see that they've put a lot of work into the arrangements and it definitely paid off. My personal highlights were "We're Going To Miss You" and "Getting Away With It"
Well worth checking out if you can get tickets. (Mine were £35)
Sometimes
is a majestic song, and James are a great band.
True, David
It's not often you get the chance to sing your heart out with tears streaming down your face. Or maybe that was just me?!
