Jacko - 50 Nights!

Johan's picture

As someone who predicted on this very blog that Michael Jackson would perhaps struggle to sell tickets, I am, needless to say, astonished that he is now playing 50 nights at the O2. That's 1.1 million tickets!

As you couldn't pay me to attend, it's safe to say that I've never felt more out of step with the Great British Public!

You're not alone

For 50 nights maybe we could just go down the pub!!

Circus sideshow freaks can generate...

a lot of interest and earn a great deal of money.

We're not just talking about the Great British Public here....

an ENORMOUS proportion of people at these shows will have travelled from all corners of the globe to attend. This is, as they say, a Big Deal.

I don't believe it

There is something fishy going on here. I know what has been reported and it seems impressive. But I think there is something underhand/sneaky happening with the reporting. I simply do not believe that over a million people are buying tickets.

More than one ticket per person

Well if it's anything like the Prince deal it seems that a lot of people went more than once (in fact a lot more than once). They may all have been media types that didn't actually pay for a ticket but I think the hope was that the shows weren't all going to be the same. Surely though Jacko's back catalogues isn't really extensive enough to do lots of different shows or am I showing my ignorance here?
In the "olden days" it might have been claimed that it was all a publicity stunt to sell more albums so I hope someone has told them that it doesn't work that way anymore!

7

Including one show that is curtailed due to Mr Jackson, "suffering exhaustion"...

This is beginning to sound like a West End Run.....

You know, where a famous sleb plays, say, Mrs Robinson. Who is going to play Jacko the nights he is unavoidably unable to be there?

Apparently

there are now rumours that he'll be fitting a world tour in between his residency?

As I said on the other Jackson thread

Tickets are now available via lastminute.com which for most other things (hotels, flights etc) only happens when supply exceeds demand.

My mate will be gutted

he was able to fob off his lad with the info that tour had sold out, but now? Why is it that young lads love Jacko? Not the other way round

Sell out?

There's definately something odd going on here. The organisers now claim that it's all sold out! If the reporting on the BBC site is correct (which is always in doubt) the organisers also reckon that "the This Is It tour has become the fastest-selling in history, with 33 seats sold each minute". At that rate it would take 10 hours to sell out one night at the O2!
