I have no views one way or the other about Jackie Leven as an artist or a human being, as I didn't know him as either.
Many people in the music business die every day, as indeed they do in other spheres of life. I don't feel particularly affected by them other than a general melancholy that we all die. I knew this already. I don't feel any more for someone I never knew just because they die, and I can't pretend to hang my head in due respect just because they are dead.
There were three previous "Jackie Leven RIP" threads.
To the thirteen readers who knew all this and understood my point without having to be walked through it - thank you.
- to be honest, neither do I, other than some Ian Rankin-related activity, plus a few threads over the years- on this site.
No one asked you to pretend to feel anything for him either, so why bother with the flippant opener?
I admit that I had the occasional smile at some of the initial Rafferty threads, but they seemed to have run their course. On reading your opener, I just felt it unnecessary.
It may (or not) have been "funny" for some, but it's not flippant. It's using Jackie Leven's name to make a general point, which may (or may not) have been worth making. The OP is about the attitude of those commenters who found it tasteless or whatever - it's not about Jackie Leven. At least (going by the up arrows) some understood it.
Seriousness is a funny old thing, eh?
(I'm not really in favour of giving Pete Seeger a good kicking, either.)
at this point. I was the inspiration behind the unbounded Gerry Rafferty hilarity. You see, what I did was, (no, stop!), I posted an entry on here commenting about Gerry Rafferty's death when (no, I can't take any more), get this, SOMEONE HAD ALREADY POSTED SOMETHING ABOUT IT, thereby leading to (oh, my aching sides!) duplicate threads on the Word website, leading to, well, all manner of inappropriateness...
have been an issue with Jackie himself. He had a mordant sense of humour and I recall one of his infamous joke stories about Sting being dead - I have it on CD but sadly couldn't find it on Youtube. The song the attached clip explains his thoughts on death - I think he was a great artist and also a very funny man with a big heart: http://youtu.be/RghwTDUrou4
I demand
a second opinion
How about
a little respect, please.
No need
for that OP. Jackie seems to be quite well liked here.
A google search...
for jackie shows your post as 7th in the last 24 hours. I do hope his family and friends are not checking for tributes.
Yeah whatever
Were the Gerry Rafferty threads not enough?
Child
Really, what's the point of this?
imho
poor,poor taste
Hear, hear
A not-very-funny joke in the first place has run its course, I think.
For the hard of hearing, then:

No, no
I got it without having to be "walked through it"..problem is, it's just not really very funny!
So you knew little about Jackie Leven

I feel I should declare an interest

What ever the motive
it's still disrespectful and crass.
Allow me to apologise to you personally,
"Mr." Drayton.
Actually not sure it would
