Anyone alive and gig-going in the 70s

will have seen Stray at least 14 times.

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 26 May 2009 - 5:16pm

Ha! Mere wannabes

I must have seen The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver 19 times.

0
Archie Valparaiso | 26 May 2009 - 7:04pm

What do I win?

The Family Cat: 320 times

0
Fraser Lewry | 26 May 2009 - 5:32pm

You win a...

...red and white steamroller.

0
backwards7 | 26 May 2009 - 8:50pm

The staples...

Oasis 11 times
Super Furry Animals 18 times
Primal Scream 14 teams
The Coral 8 times
The Stooges three times (not much but given I wasn't born in their first incrnation, fairly impressive I think)

0
Chimney Singing... | 26 May 2009 - 5:37pm

I think my only ones in that group are

Super Furry Animals
Spiritualized

0
clarker | 26 May 2009 - 5:42pm

How sad am I?

Jean Michel Jarre: sixth time was Wembley Arena last Friday

0
illuminatus | 26 May 2009 - 5:53pm

My Sixth for Jarre too

in Manc.

I've seen Ian Hunter every UK Tour since 79 and Mott The Hoople Once (soon to be again, time to revive the thread).

There's loads I've seen 3 or 4 times.

Some I didn't want to due to my other half being unable to go to a gig without me escorting her.

She's been to one once with her mates, apparently it wasn't the same without me. Thank goodness I managed to miss dear old Rod.

I've had some great nights at Chris De Burgh, Paul Young (4 bloody times, Tina Turner, Runrig (4 bloody times), Journey, David Gray (4 bloody times).

I've suffered in silence, although I have to admit Belinda Carlisle was quite good.

I have managed to put my foot down on the matter of Simply Red.

Oh Yes and indeed yes!

anythingcanhappen | 27 May 2009 - 12:31am

My soon to be ex-wife

dragged me to a couple of Status Quo gigs. Not my favourite band but they do what they do very, very well indeed. First time also had the bonus of Suzi Quatro wriggling at us.

The ex-ness and Quo are not connected, incidentally.

0
illuminatus | 27 May 2009 - 10:43pm

Not sad at all.

Jean Michel Jarre I always imagined put on a proper show.

My selections;
Spritualized
Underworld
James Yorkson
King Creosote
The Aliens

There may be others but this lot spring to mind immediately

0
ganglesprocket | 26 May 2009 - 5:55pm

I feel...

pleasantly and surpringly vindicated.

0
illuminatus | 27 May 2009 - 10:43pm

Richard Thompson

a mere five times

0
Five-Centres | 26 May 2009 - 5:56pm

I think my best is 5

Neil Finn (and Crowded House)
Aimee Mann
The New York Fund

The '4' club includes:
Cowboy Junkies
Teenage Fanclub
The Black Crowes
Wilco

Up 'til quite recently, my wife had seen every gig by my band - about 14 shows - until a Burnley evening match got in the way.

0
Jon | 26 May 2009 - 6:06pm

Attention Fannies fans

There’s a recent live clip of TFC playing Baby Lee, a new Norman song mentioned on here a couple of times, now up on youtube. Very nice it is too.

0
Richard Lowe | 26 May 2009 - 7:44pm

Somewhat sad

but proud to be so, I have seen
Jimmy Webb
The Webb Brothers
The Mutton Birds
Roger McGuinn
Gallagher & Lyle
Ralph McTell
all more than 5 times. I am still first in the queue for Mr Webb and his offspring and if McGuinn is playing locally then I'll be there.

0
Bruised Mike | 26 May 2009 - 6:13pm

There can be but one!

Hawkwind - 6

The Sisters come close on 4, sorry I'm a disappointment even tho' I did see Stray support Rush on the 2112 tour. Just the once mind.

0
James Blast | 26 May 2009 - 6:27pm

Banshees

Thirteen times. Bloody Marvelous.

0
Mr Drayton | 26 May 2009 - 6:29pm

Can't remember exactly many times but...

Nerina Pallot
Gordon Giltrap
Beth Rowley
Susy Thomas
Jo Webb & The Dirty Hands
Threshold (did merch for them on a couple of tours so it kinda went with the deal - really enjoyed them each time tho!)
Nanci Griffith
Fairport Convention
Hummingbird
The Storys
Rosalie Deighton
Jon Allen (as in on this month's CD)
Miranda Barber
Gary Moore

...albeit that some of those come from hanging around at a really good singer-songwriter club.

Don't tend to see the enormodome crowd mega multiple times but we have sen Rush a creditable 4 times (which is nearly every UK tour for the last 20 years!).

0
Trevor_Raggatt | 26 May 2009 - 6:39pm

there must be more than this

Ian Dury & The Blockheads
The Clash
Elvis Costello (with Attractions / Confederates as required)
Dick Dale
James King & the Lonewolves
Teenage Fanclub
The Cramps
The Primevals
The Alleged
Defiant Pose

0
el hombre malo | 26 May 2009 - 6:58pm

The Alleged

do I know you?

Euan... Hector...?

0
James Blast | 26 May 2009 - 7:11pm

close but no cigar

I drank in the Doune Castle from 78 to 80 ish - so I saw the Alleged countless times, and I played there quite a bit too. I also saw Apes in Control a fair amount, Bite The Pillow (who were great), Positive Noise, Jamie Barnes & Cochise, the Nicky Tams, TV21 etc. But as I had been listening to "Kilt By Death" yesterday and was struck by 'Despair' I thought I should recognise the many hours I spent drinking Tartan Special downstairs in the Doune!

Do I know you ?

EDIT : I can't BELIEVE I left the Ramones off the list above. D'oh! And, thinking back to 79/80, Orange Juice (from the Bungalow Bar to Tiffany's and beyond!)

0
el hombre malo | 26 May 2009 - 11:59pm

Don't think we know

each other but our paths have definitely crossed, many a time, not least at Orange Juice in the Bungalow. I worked with the lead singer of The Alleged/Apes in Control so that's what kinda threw me in the first place. I was more a Nightmoves man, maybe we should meet for a pint and compare battle scars.

0
James Blast | 27 May 2009 - 3:45pm

sounds like a good idea

I spent a bit of time at Nightmoves too, and Maestro's. I was working with a friend's PA hire company for OJ at the Bungalow : a major change from their regular clientele which was bands who wanted to be Frankie Miller. (Not that there's anything wrong with Frankie Miller, but I saw many singers try for that gravelly voice and miss by a mile.)

I'm not in Glasgow much just now but I'm sure we'll bump into each other at a gig somewhere down the line - if I do get back with more time I'd love to meet up for a pint!

0
el hombre malo | 27 May 2009 - 4:45pm

Excellent!

I'm sure we can get in contact via spot of table tapping

0

Eight times (plus one aftershow)

Van Morrison - seven (disappointing only once - but this was a while back, haven't seen him recently)

The Dame - Five (Years, arf!)

0
Black Type | 26 May 2009 - 6:43pm

Mr Roy Harper

tops my list with 17 gigs. The amazing thing is, given his reputation for not being able to finish gigs, shall we say in a coherent state, every one has been a full gig with encores etc.
Chuck Prophet 7 or 8 times and if you add in Green On Red gigs you can double that.

0
Carl Parker | 26 May 2009 - 6:53pm

My Roy Harper tale...

He played the Cropredy festival many years ago with son Nick. I think it would be fair to say that he'd been on the 'herbal' variety of cigarettes before his performance (possibly during too) and was having to take the odd break to change strings, tune up etc. Nick was filling in by playing snippets of songs, including the intro to Stairway To Heaven. As the familiar notes rang out, a loud voice could be heard shouting "Rubbish! Get off! Rubbish!". I turned around and saw that the heckler was none other than Robert Plant, who then attempted to lob a plastic cup at the stage. Stood next to him was Jimmy Page, who was cracking up laughing...

Wonderful...

0
Patrick Crowther | 27 May 2009 - 8:47am

Mr D.P.A. McManus

Well, I suppose my no.1 must be Elvis Costello, as I can count 16 of his ticket stubs in my collection (the Armed Forces and Trust tours probably getting the gold stars).
Picking up the silver medals are Billy Bragg, Ron Sexsmith and Youssou N'dour with seven gig occasions each. A pleasure every time, gents.

0
duco01 | 26 May 2009 - 6:56pm

The Wonder Stuff

I've seen Miles Hunt and crew more than 20 times over the last 20 years and as a consequence the two others in my top three are Neds Atomic Dustbin and Kingmaker who were invariably supporting them in the early days. In fourth place it's probably Terrorvision.

0

Sorry Patrick, what was that ?

Crap joke i know but couldn't resist.
They are fantatic live and it's always a brilliant atmosphere and got to meet them 2 years back. really cool guys with time for everyone.
Took a 5ft Malaysian girl on a first date to see Slayer, couldn't get her out of the Moshpit. She loved it.
Reign In Blood is a fantastic album. "Angel 0f Death" is "Metal" as it should be.

A lief well lived

Mainly Fairport related, viz the old buggers themselves, umpteen times between Fairfield Halls Croydon in 75 and Town Hall B'ham last year. Then it would be R&LT, RT solo, various RT bands and the Danny duet. Albion Bands aplenty whether electrified juggernaut with 2 drummers, brass and all or small, accoustic and intimate. Gregson and Collister had an unhealthy number of visits when extant, as did Alias Ron Kavana. Oh, Chumbawamba, lest I forget, from 8 piece agit-prop shouty to the current folk singing sublime. Oyster Band knock out another 10 or so visits.
In the non folk field I guess it would be Squeeze and the Stones, each clocking in at about 6 visits. For some reason Nanci Griffith and Darden Smith have seen me about 5 times.
Did I forget world famous in Birmingham Steve Gibbons? Thats another 8 or so times. And local darlings, Prussian Blue, not the toxic nazi twins, another lot altogether, mates of mine, who managed to secure the trademark for the band name. Seldom play live, but over the years I guess they may have had me in their small and select audience a fair few times. Disappointingly never made it past the good in pubs local critics faves stage. Shame. You may have seen them at the Brasenose, during Cropredy.

0
Retropath2 | 26 May 2009 - 8:09pm

Good pun

Well done Retro

0
Sour Crout | 26 May 2009 - 10:18pm

I think we must have been at the same gigs

Lots of Oyster Band, Gregson and Collister and then Gregson without Collister. Several Albion Bands and three or four Fairports. Show of Hands more often than probably anyone else. Nanci Griffith a few times. Saw Squeeze quite lot before they were famous (grew up in same part of London) and quite a few Elvis Costellos. And, years ago when I should have been studying for A-levels, Cafe Society. And the Who.

0
Thomas the Rhymer | 27 May 2009 - 10:55am

I must have seen...

...The Walkabouts at least six times. At their peak (from Setting the Woods on Fire through to Nighttown) they were a great live act. The orchestral show they put on at The Bloomsbury Theatre remains a particular highlight.

The band always had interesting support. The last time I saw them perform was a lacklustre show at the Ocean 2 in Hackney, where Mary Gauthier played a spell-binding opening set.

I also remember seeing Low support Chris & Carla (basically a slimmed-down Walkabouts) at The Borderline.

Sadly the band no longer tour the UK.

0
backwards7 | 26 May 2009 - 8:55pm

Hmmmm

Hard to recall the exact numbers, but I've seen Elvis C and Ron Sexsmith over 10 times each, easily.

In the 5+ club are
Crowded House 5 times /Finn Bros Twice/ Neil Solo Twice
Sparks, 8 times
Dylan
Beck
Glenn Tilbrook / Squeeze

I thought there'd be more... Thankfully my buddy fjp has catalogued all his gigs here, which helps, as I was at most of them...

18?

I´m about to see him for the first time, altough I´ve been a fan for 15 years. Is he really as good as everyone tells me?

0
Ola Claesson | 27 May 2009 - 7:10pm

Would you be surprised if I said yes ?

By the way, its normally a bunch of Swedish fans who organise the wristbands to get down the front (the "pit") at his European shows.Get there early. Well worth it. Enjoy!

0
Hot Cider | 30 May 2009 - 9:57am

I've lost count of these

Richard Thompson
Jethro Tull
Pallas

Not really representative of my listening or gig-going tastes, to be honest. Apart from RT.

0
Lando Cakes | 26 May 2009 - 9:17pm

30 years of gig going...

...but the best I can do is:

Roy Harper - over 20 times
John Martyn - about 12 times
The Egg - 11 times
Van Morrison - about 7 times in the 80s and 90s
Dreadzone - 8 times
Martin Stephenson & The Daintees - about 6 times in the 80s and 90s

Aside from that, general eclecticism and laziness means I've seen plenty of others only once or twice.

0
Mr Sparks | 26 May 2009 - 9:28pm

Teenage Fanclub

I bloody love this band. I take great pleasure in telling anyone who'll listen to me that I've seen them live at least once every year since 1990. Oh yes!

Saw them 4 times last year. Still awaiting my 2009 debut performance though. Shouldn't be too long, with a new album almost in the can and all that.

I think I've seen RT exactly 6 times.

Lots of bands 'bubbling under' at 3 or 4 times each.

Only Depeche Mode hit the big 6 for me

Neil Young
David Bowie

0

Mr Costello again

Perhaps sad to say but I've seen him nearly 100 times since my infatuation started at Oldham Civic Hall in 1979. Last time was last month in Manchester with the Brodskys. Hoping that he visits with the Sugarcanes to play songs from the new cd soon.

0
Benny Philadelphia | 27 May 2009 - 9:20am

I find it really interesting that...

you can still find something to enjoy after having seen someone that many times. When I was still going to gigs I found that if I saw a band that I loved twice on the same tour, the second time would invariably fail to live up to the first. There is no act that I would want to see 100 times.

0
Patrick Crowther | 27 May 2009 - 9:24am

I may well be....

a creature of habit. But as Steve Turner says the EC concerts show such variety and there always something new. There have been one or two shockers - the Keaton's Bar and Grill shows with Roy Nathanson were not my cup of tea, Terror and Magnificence with John Harle lived up to the first word but didn't match the second - but these easily outweighed by all the top notch soulful performances by Elvis. Perhaps the most memorable recent one was the Sold on Song concert at the Cafe du Paris hosted by Radio Two for which I was lucky enough to win tickets. EC being interviewed by Mariella Frostrup, singing some great songs, free drinks and canapes brought by taxpayer funded waiters and, remarkably, standing next to the lovely Clare Grogan. Hog Heaven.

0
Benny Philadelphia | 27 May 2009 - 11:18am

Good work

100 EC shows! I thought I was doing well with 15 gigs since 1989. There's enough variety in a Costello gig to repay repeated visits: I've seen him solo acoustic, with the Rude 5, The Attractions, The Imposters, The Brodskys, Burt Bacharach, Steve Nieve. Missed the Allen Toussaint shows. I'd attempt 100 shows if I had the time/money/etc, and I'd seriously consider trying to make all shows if he ever "did a Sparks" and undertook a residency where he performed all his albums.

0
DrJ | 30 May 2009 - 7:57pm

Sparks Vs Elvis

I'm a massive Sparks and Elvis Costello fan. I don't know how many Elvis shows I've seen over the years but it must be about 20. I didn't think I'd have the stamina for all the Sparks gigs so I only went to five of them and I really don't think that Elvis would do justice to his albums in the same way. Somehow the Sparks series just worked (I found myself wishing I'd bought more tickets but I know that my body would have regretted it), perhaps it was the relatively small venue. Mind you, if Elvis did ever embark on such an event I don't think I could resist a few nights.

0
JohnW | 30 May 2009 - 10:34pm

Yes

Heh, you and me both. I ended up going to 6 of the Sparks shows and loved each one. The younger me, the one that didn't have an antisocial job and a pregnant wife, would have easily made all 21 shows. There was an awful lot of love in the room each night for the Maels.

EC Live

Probably seen Costello around 20 times and I too am looking hopefully to a Sugarcanes tour.I have also seen the same people at a Costello concert on numerous occasions including a guy I sat next to at Manchester Beridgewater Hall and Birmingham Symphony hall on the same tour - how freaky is that? RT about 20 times too. Genesis about 6, Bruce Springsteen about 8, Martin Stephenson at least 6.
Alabama 3 I saw for the first time last year and saw them 3 times in 12 months - that number will be added to as and when they next appear locally.
In answer to Patrick the thing about Costello is that no 2 shows are ever the same - the Manchester and Birmingham gigs I mentioned above were no more than 2 months apart and the second gig featured 18 songs that were not played at the first gig. If you look at the recent tour with the Brodskys the setlist was much more regimented I guess because of the nature of the songs however I still got to see him perform a song he had never performed live before and has not performed since. This is what you get with the man.

0
Steve Turner | 27 May 2009 - 9:44am

I don't know why...

but I haven't seen that many bands more than 6 times apart from The Soundtrack of Our Lives, I'll reach gig number 23 of theirs when they play The Bush Hall in London on June 23rd!

I can come up with a few bands that I've seen about 4 or 5 times...

Iggy Pop
The Stranglers
The Blue Aeroplanes
New Model Army (ahem...)
Teenage Fanclub
The Fall
Sisters of Mercy
Shack
The Gun Club
Roddy Frame
The Godfathers
Hamell On Trial

Elvis Costello (attractions/imposters/RLPO/Brodskys)

Feeling a bit deprived

Although I go to a few gigs a year, I've realised that there's very few groups I've seen more than once:

Marillion: 6 (plus Fish on his own: 2)
Jethro Tull: 4
Australian Pink Floyd Show: 3 (the most recent tour, The Wall, was mindblowing, by the way)
Pink Floyd: 2

Those I've seen once and can't wait to see again:

Rammstein: simply unbelievably exciting from start to finish. Mayhem combined with ferocious Teutonic rhythms and riffs, and that's before they set themselves on fire or go crowd surfing. In a dinghy.
Ultravox: their reunion tour had the best atmosphere of any gig I've been too. One of those fabulous shows that you don't want to end.

And I know this isn't musical, but if you've never seen it, Slava's Snow Show is the sort of production that you never forget. One of the most entertaining things I've ever seen. www.slavasnowshow.co.uk

6+

Lots of people are hovering around 4-5 (Morrissey, Teenage Fanclub, Manics, Franz Ferdinand, Jarvis Cocker/Pulp...) but 6+:

The Magic Numbers (12, I think)
Gomez (7 if you include acoustic gigs from half the band)
Elbow (7)
Ed Harcourt (6)
Badly Drawn Boy (6)

There are probably others.

Way out ahead is...

Christine Collister, with and without Clive Gregson, and with Hell Bent Heaven Bound, Daphne's Flight and Jailbirds - between 30 and 40

Caroline Trettine - round about 20 I'd say

Richard Thompson - I'd guess 6-8 times

David Bowie - Can't remember if it's 5 or 6

Shawn Colvin - about 5 or 6

Tori Amos - also can't remember, 4 or 5

Pooka, and their constituent parts Natasha Jones and Sharon Lewis - 6 or 7

Sally Barker, including the Poozies - between 7 and 10, it's a long time ago

Who?

Sorry, I've never heard of Caroline Trettine. Is she someone I should know about, or is she an artist local to your area?

0
Carl Parker | 27 May 2009 - 10:34pm

Caroline Trettine

Thanks for asking and giving me the incentive to elaborate! I ought to declare an interest here as Caroline is a friend of mine; that said, I'd seen her many times before my status morphed from fan to friend (obviously there was an intervening period of stalkerdom...).

She was once in the Blue Aeroplanes, under the name Caroline Halcrow, appearing on a couple of their earlier records. She then brought out a mini-album on Billy Bragg's Utility label. It's called Be A Devil and is quite perfect. It got some very warm praise, including from Q; she gigged a lot in London, had sessions with Bob Harris on Radio 1, amongst others, major labels were sniffing around. Sadly (for me and a few other devoted fans, at any rate!) it never quite happened, and she went back to her day job, emerging 10 years later with Ten Light Years, another exquisite collection. Then the label folded. She has not been blessed with great fortune as far as the music biz is concerned.

Enough potted history. Caroline is seriously good: a superb songwriter, extremely nifty guitarist, and has a lovely, subtle voice which never overemotes - it's more like having a lover whisper in your ear. She's done one other album, Trail in ther Sky. They're all well worth having, and her concerts are always a low-key delight. Her myspace page is here. And here's a song:

A fair few I guess

Aimee Mann
Nerina Pallot
Thea Gilmore
Kylie
Jonatha Brooke
Bat For Lashes
Erasure
Manic Street Preachers
Tom McRae
Beth Orton
Barenaked Ladies
Helen Boulding
KT Tunstall
Tegan & Sara
Beautiful South
Kathryn Williams
David Ford
The Pipettes

That's off the top of my head, could be a couple of others.

0
itf | 27 May 2009 - 10:26pm

KT Tunstall

is the only one I could take from that least. Seen her at least eleven times now.

0
Tom | 27 May 2009 - 10:49pm

Only...

Richard Thompson (7) and Del Amitri (6) from me. I tend to get a bit bored after 3 gigs or so, and when I catch myself thinking "I should be enjoying myself, and I'll pretend I am, but really I'm not", then I don't go again. The thought of seeing the same artist on consecutive nights, or ...horrors... being a soundman or "with the band" gives me the heebies. Whatever they are.

nicktf | 27 May 2009 - 11:00pm

Let's See...

I got to five easily, mainly in the '70's but found it really difficult to get to six, due to strolling off down different musical avenues and forgetting the way back.
Finally got there with Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Todd Rundgren, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes and Doctor Feelgood. There may be one or two others. Still have lots on five.

The great Ron Sexsmith

Seven times in six different cities in four different countries, and the man has delivered the goods every damn time. (Copenhagen, 2002: Danes, I salute you and your fine, fine taste.) A mixed blessing, actually, as the fan in me wishes Ron would achieve a level of popularity whereby he wouldn't have to tour perpetually to pay the bills.

This thread brings me hope

you throw at me any band you can think of, and I'll be able to tell you how many times I've seen them, where, and (approximately) when. I think it's a male thing to mentally catalogue things like this.

Re the question - I've not seen anyone more than five times, preferring variety to repeat viewings of the same act. I certainly don't like seeing the same act twice on the same tour. But then, I've only been going to gigs for a decade.

Sad Ex-Pub Rocker

Back in the 70's I'm embarrassed to say I saw the Kursaal Flyers 14 times.
Also saw the marvellous Meal Ticket 8 times
Graham Parker and The Rumour 9 times
Kokomo 6 times
Richard Thompson (in various aggregations/solo) 8 (or 9) times
Crowded House 5 times.
Brian Wilson 5 times (and the Beach Boys only twice)
Robert Palmer 8 times
Nils Lofgren 5 times
Emmylou Harris & Hot Band 7 times
Roger Chapman at least 7 times (plus 5 with Streetwalkers plus Family once)
Free 3 times (plus 2 Bad Company plus Paul Rogers' Peace)
Sutherland Brothers/Quiver and Quiver 5 times.

Loads more 4/5 times - Kate Rusby springs to mind.

Badlands | 28 May 2009 - 10:24am

Paull Rodgers' Peace

I suspect you may have a tiny claim to fame and be the only person posting on this site who ever saw Peace.
I'm slightly envious.
You didn't get to see Andy Fraser's Toby and / or Kossoff Kirke, Tetsu and Rabbit as well did you?
That would make me very envious, even if they were rubbish on the night.

0
Carl Parker | 29 May 2009 - 1:56pm

Mealticket!?

Blimey, that's struck a chord, but I can't remember why. I am sure I saw them, perhaps as support to R&LT at, possibly, the Venue, Victoria. Were they Ron Kavanas earlier band, mayhap?

0
Retropath2 | 28 May 2009 - 11:05am

Meal Ticket were

Canadian Rick Jones -keyboards/vocals(also of Playschool and 'Fingerbobs' fame),
Willy Finlayson - guitar/vocals(Ex Bees Make Honey),
Steve Simpson - guitar/fiddle/mandolin/vocals(Ex Slim Chance, latterly Roger Chapman's Shortlist, Chuck Farley and many other bands),
Jack Brand - bass/vocals,
Ray Flacke - Lead Guitar - now a Nashville legend
Chris Hunt - Drums

0
Badlands | 29 May 2009 - 12:24am

Ta for that

Simpson is the only name that figures, but it was a looong time ago....

You were obviously never a habitue of the 'Farx' Club at Potters Bar then !
Stray appeared there with some regularity in 1971.

I'm ashamed to say that...

I saw the Wonder Stuff over 130 times. So that means without even trying I saw PWEI/Neds/Eat/Sandkings/Libertines(Miles brothers lot)/The Seers/Jesus Jones a minimum of 10 times each.

Also in my 10+ gig-0-meter indie Landfill career I can add Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Rakes, Official Secrets Act, Sky Larkin, Noisettes, Morrissey, Wilco, Jayhawks, The Cribs, Futureheads, Pete & The Pirates, Mystery Jets, Kid Creole (yes, that one), Goodbooks, Squeeze, We Are Scientists, Balaam & The Angel, The Cult, Joe Jackson, Elbow, Kings Of Leon, Killers, Young Knives, Rumble Strips.

I do spend a lot of time seeing the same old faces. I'm also ashamed to say I have a huge stack of ticket stubs.

0
CarlDoherty | 1 June 2009 - 6:33pm

The Seers

They were good, saw them supporting Iggy and Ramones and then at Reading Festival - thought they were very underated. We could do with a few more bands like them Crazyhead and The Godfathers now. Bit of energy and good rockin' tunes - blow these landfill indie bands away!

The Wonder Stuff

Hi
Do you have a list of all the wonder stuff shows? and did you keep any of your stubs for those shows?

Im writing a book on their uk tours and would like some info if it is available

thanks

0

thought

we wouldn't notice Morrissey buried in there, eh?

BTW, there is no shame in having seen PWEI, only admiration

0
James Blast | 1 June 2009 - 6:44pm

The Waterboys

Seen them and Mike Scott solo on 10 occasions since 1984. Still ag great live band when they rock and leave the acoustic stuff at home.

Closely followed by Del Amitri/Justin Currie and The Alarm.

0
Uncle Wheaty | 1 June 2009 - 7:23pm

Through work (honest!)

I did see Wet Wet Wet at least 6 times and on one occasion on 3 consecutive nights. The buggers even used to come and rehearse at our venue and once did a full show in front of 100 invited guests + venue staff. Luckily we had a beer festival next door so I could flit between the 2 at my leisure.

Not all fun and games this rock 'n' roll business you know.

REM
Orange Juice

6 of the best

I like gigs, more than pretty much anything. So I've seen a lot over the years, over 500, but mostly at small venues. Anything bigger than Manchester Apollo, and I'm not interested, with the honourable exception that I'm going to Hyde Park soon to see Brooce for the first time ever. I just never got round to it before

My local gig in Bury holds about 180, which is a perfect size to see musicians close up. Some of these acts are regulars there. Here's my list in decending order

Richard Thompson in various formats (20)
Chris While & Julie Matthews (11) still a good turn
Jools Holland Xmas show (11) mostly at Manchester Apollo
Show of Hands, more often than not in trio format (9)
Fairport in various line-ups (8)
Kate Rusby before I went off her (8)
Helen Watson, consistently good performer (8)
Van "The" Man (8) not many good ones. I've given up with him
St Agnes Fountain Xmas Show (8) always good fun
Emmylou Harris (7)
and my current faves The Greencards (6)

Soon to make the list: the fabulous Hot Club of Cowtown

0
Vince Black | 11 June 2009 - 9:17pm

in no particular order

King Pleasure and the biscuit boys

The truckin fermendos
The Hadsome family

The Divine Comedy
The Flaming Lips
Steve Gibbons

and hopefully Richard Hawley if he tours again this year
