ITV - Watch This and Know Whats Wrong
Last week at about 10:30pm on a Thursday night was what appeared to be a good program. It traced the story of military road convoys in Afghanistan and the very risky and unpleasent job it is to be involved. The only problem is it was on ITV, the alarm bells started to chime. What the viewer got was an exercise in how to ruin a decent topic with music and editing. The music thunderd relentlessly, the edits chop, chop, chopped. I stuck with it for 15 minutes and then the off button had to act. I don't mind the trivial being destroyed, thats par for the course. But this was a seriouse topic worthy of some respect with people genuinly putting their lives at risk (and I include the film crew in that).
ITV can still make reasonable documentarys (not many I admit), I would refer to the "True Crime" series which are soaber watchable programs.
However most of their output is a million miles from "The World at War".

Was this the Doctors At War series?
If so, I saw one of these a couple of weeks ago and thought it was one of the best bits of reality TV I'd seen in ages. I felt ITV should get more credit for having done it. This episode featured a young surgeon who had to decide whether to amputate a leg or not within minutes of the poor young trooper being helicoptered in from some IED attack. All the time the senior surgeon (a territorial who normally practiced at Aberdeen General) was assessing his performance. Rather redefined "pressure" for me.
