So I have 1423 albums with 17896 songs by 324 artists.
Yes, a mere 324 artists, I'm sure some of you have many more. Averages out at 4.39 albums and 55.23 songs per artist.
Not particularly revealing but I wonder how typical I am amongst The Word Massive.
(Note this doesn't include well over 1,000 vinyl albums and singles that stubbornly remain undigitised).

Just checked
I'm a mere amateur, with 10118 tracks from 1020 albums by 427 artists, and you don't need Excel to tell you that this means 23.69555 tracks per artist and 9.91608 tracks per album*. In fairness, I have tried to be discriminating in selecting which tracks from my sprawling CD collection I choose to rip. Looking at these stats I think I have failed, but the low artist count surprises me.
*May not be true, it depends on your mental arithmetic.
Erm... how do you find out how many artists...
... or albums you have? At the bottom of my iTunes screen it says 28,802 songs, how long it would take to hear them all plus how many Gbs it uses up.
Column Browser
If you set it to list view and switch the column browser on (with the column browser at the top) - is there any other way?!! - then the number of artists is at the top of the artists column.
Here are my stats:
Artists: 1162 (if I ungroup my various artists compilations I have 6085!)
Albums:3470 (although some of those are just singles, a few are just single tracks)
Tracks: 43278 (I've ignored podcasts and other radio recordings from that total)
18,524 tracks 1441
18,524 tracks
1441 Albums
509 Artists
Av 12.9 Albums and 36.9 songs per artist
...This does not take into consideration swathes of unlistened to (and unlistenable) Led Zep and Floyd bootlegs...
Lightweights
66,593 Songs.
1,663 Artists.
5,388 Albums.
It would take me 184.7 days to listen to the lot, apparently.
12.4 tracks per album
40.0 tracks per artist
3.2 albums per artist
And do you know what? It still doesn't feel like enough.
wow Paul
You're the winner (so far).

As a result iTunes runs really slow - I'd love to find a way to improve performance - are you happy with yours Paul?
It's ok (PC flavour)
Takes a while to fire up and is occasionally temperamental but not so bad I've ever felt the need to look for an alternative.
Run all my stuff off an external hard drive with tons of free space, if that makes a difference...
Would anyone like a tape measure?
My car has a really long bonnet, as well.
I have
14,550 songs
1,228 albums
689 artists.
I only have whole albums and compilations - no singles and no bits. Some artists use different names (eg Miles Davis sometimes has the word Quintet after it). Even so I'm surprised to have less than two albums per artist, especially as I have loads of Stones, Beatles, Miles, Bowie, White Stripes, Coltrane, Dylan, Costello, Talking Heads, Roxy Music etc etc.
