iTunes Palavers
Posted by lovelyian on 27 May 2009 - 10:33am.
I recently updated my iTunes to v.8.1 as prompted and now - NOW - it doesn't seem interested in burning CDs. I have wasted a dozen CDRs trying. Anyone have any solutions?

If all else fails...
..uninstall and download the full package.
If you don't have an iPhone
and/or don't put video on your iPod then find a stable older version that does what you want and then stick with it.
I've never seen the reason to progress beyond iTunes v6. It's small, it's fast, it's light and it was the last version before iTunes fell victim to feature creep - no iPhone support, minimal video support, minimal ITMS support - it just plays music & podcasts and rips/burns CDs
Old versions can be found at http://www.oldapps.com/download_iTunes_mac.php
I'm PC
But that's brilliant thanks.
The whole Genius sidebar palaver seems pointless
PC?
Take a look at http://www.oldapps.com/download_iTunes.php :-)
Yip...
...the Genius sidebar is just cack. I downloaded 8.1.1 for the Mac a while back because it mentioned performance improvements and now it's slower at playing tracks!
As others have mentioned, if you haven't got new hardware then just stick with the version you have.
Also: Vista
The newer versions don't agree with Vista very well...
Simon's Right
Vista hates the new versions. After trouble last time round, I've not bothered installing the new upgrade.
Norton doesn't like a lot of the new features security wise either.
Genius is completely unnecessary.
Hmmm.
Not totally disagreeing with the above (as in why update if you don't use the extra features....) but 8.1 runs fine on my Vista machine and I think Genius is fun. Not brilliant just fun. Wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole though.
Yep
I've recently got into using Genius. True, for a lot of my more folky stuff it can't offer any suggestions, but it has created someminteresting playlists.
I like Genius
It throws up some interesting playlists, but there are some things it can't deal with at all, like AC/DC.
However, it can quite obtrusive.
