iTunes Artwork Guidance

marsonator's picture

Putting some our cds onto my daughter's iPod that she had for Christmas.
I'm in Australia so affiliated to iTunes here.
Any tunes bought from the store automatically add artwork but my cds are a bit hit and miss.
The only ones to automatically add the artwork so far are the last I Am Kloot album (Sky At Night) and the last National album (High Violet).
Everything else will identify the songs but not download the artwork so I am having to go on Google images and copy and paste.
These cds are authentic and fairly common eg Wingspan, ELO Flashback, Selena Gomez "A Year Without Rain" and Hannah Montana - Forever.

I've just realised that the ones that work were bought in Oz but the ones that don't I got from UK - is this the problem ?

Having said that..........

I just bought Oasis "Time Flies" here in Oz the other day and that artwork didn't automatically attach however looking on the disc it appears to be an import as it says made in EU.

Mind you The National and I Am Kloot cds were also made in EU and their artwork downloaded........I give up

Artwork

...finding artwork for your own albums or tracks isn't an iTunes issue - it's all third-party search engines and equally hit and miss as those track title databases. (Surely that Mr. Various can't have composed THAT many tracks in different kinds of genres, eh...?)

For me, a quick Google picture search is more reliable.

its hit and miss

It generally won't give you the artwork unless it finds an exact match in the itunes store. If the word 'remastered' or 'disc 2' or whatever has been added to the track listing database this will confuse it.

I bought "Tune Up"

following a link in a Word email. It searches for artwork, and cleans up tags very effectively. iTunes often attaches incorrect artwork and it can take a little routing out - Tune Up is much more accurate.

Try 'Album Cover Finder'

There is a free version which works for me, most of the time.

I find that

Google image searches throw up fairly hit n' miss results. Wikipedia on the other hand is very good. Just do a search of the album title. Artwork is always good resolution and a high quality scan. if you're as anal in your iTunes curation as I am!
