It's your funeral, so what gets played?
Posted by Rab100 on 23 December 2011 - 10:44am.
To counter all this Xmas fun, what track/s would you have played at your funeral? I personally would go for:
Why? Just to give people something to cry about.

I've always threatened...
...to go for Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia On A Theme By Thomas Tallis", interrupted after about 1:45 by Zep's "Rock And Roll". Tears would be shed, for one reason or another, I believe.
Thank you and Goodnight
'Electrolyte' by R.E.M.
partly because I love the song and partly because I want my casket to go off to the furnace as Stipey sings the song's last words, "I'm outta here..."
My late, rather taciturn, uncle
asked for, and got, 'Goodness Gracious Me!' played at his memorial service. There were some raised eyebrows and shuffled feet, I can tell you.
(He was a retired consultant geriatrician and when he moved to the UK in the early 1960s, was apparently the first senior Asian doctor in that particular part of the country).
Great story!
I'd go for Get Happy...... ( the show tune(not the entire EC album....though that's a thought too...)
The End/Dead!
By My Chemical Romance. 'Have you heard the news that you're dead?'
For a dancer
..by Jackson Browne
Played at my funeral...
Scrabble. Or ice hockey
Edit
Station Approach - Elbow
Heaven Must've Sent You ..
.. by The Elgins
May Be Too Obvious
The obvious being McGuiness Flint: "When I'm Dead & Gone"
Although, Stones: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", or Deep Purple: "Burn" may raise a smile (or not)
If I was feeling inclined, I'd choose Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
At the moment of being asked (ie now) I Would choose
Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D major
and
The The: "This Is The Day"
Mellotron
Watcher Of The Skies (Genesis) at the start and Northern Sky (Nick Drake) at the end.
When me Grandma cied,
She wanted Jack Duckworths version of 'I Will Always Love You' played at her funeral. The ghetto blaster ran out of batteries halfway through. When I got married, I wanted Scott Walkers 'The Worlds Strongest Man' as my wedding music, but the CD player at the chapel wouldn't play CD-Rs. I've always wanted 'Atmosphere' by Joy Division played at me funeral, but doubtless on the day ther'ell be issues downloading it from the ultracloud, and I'll be interred in silence. Bloody typical.
People better blooming be crying...
... so Faretheewell by Fred Neil is the current selection
Logical
The Unbirthday Song from Disney`s Alice In Wonderland
Some hymns or something
Seriously. In the dark tunnel of grief caused by your departure from this life, one of the only glimpses of light for your family and friends to focus on is the fact that you will no longer be around to bore them to death with your bloody awful music.
Don't take that hope away.
badger_king's musical smorgasbord of death...
Ok, so I've got it all planned out. No need to get it set in stone yet, too young to think about dying, but I have a plan.
Congregational singing:
Hymn - "Come thou fount of every blessing"
Particularly for its last 4 lines
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
Hymn - "When peace like a river"
For these two lines
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
Song - "All of Me" (Onehundredhours)
A modern Christian song, that's fantastically simple, a beautiful song with a simple message that I wholeheartedly endorse.
And for 3 pieces of music to be played:
Julie London - Cry me a River
Favourite song, without a doubt, as body brought in. Use of word "Plebian" a massive plus.
Aqualung - Baby Goodbye
Beautiful song for being set on fire in a box to. About the end of a relationship. But again, simple and effective.
Henry Francis Lyte - Abide With Me
(28 Days Later version) For leaving the church to. The unaccompanied solo alto version from the 28 Days Later film is incredibly powerful.
So, you know, if you don't hear from me for a while, can you pass this on to my family. Otherwise I'll just keep a playlist on the iPod in case of freak accidents.
In the mean time, have a good Christmas! :)
The Beatles - Goodnight
